MWHS-2 Executive Officer
Major Ryan A. Maple

Maj Maple graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, and was commissioned in May 2002.  He was designated a Naval Aviator in Meridian, MS in August 2005.  He then reported to MCAS Cherry Point to begin Fleet Replacement Squadron training as an AV-8B Pilot in VMAT-203.

Following designation as an AV-8B pilot, he joined VMA-311 at MCAS Yuma in May 2007.  He held the billets of Squadron Ground Safety Officer, Communications Officer, Casualty Assistance Calls Officer, and Quality Assurance Officer.  He deployed with VMA-311 in support of OIF and the 31st MEU.

Returning from the 31st MEU in 2010, he received orders to NAS Meridian and was assigned to Training Squadron Seven (VT-7) as an Instructor Pilot.  He held the billets of Schedules Officer, Familiarization and Formation Standardization Officer, and Command Financial Specialist.  While assigned to VT-7, he completed non-resident Marine Corps Command and Staff College (CSC), and graduated with distinction from Liberty University with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Leadership.

In 2013, Maj Maple assumed the duties of Executive Officer at MWSS-274 at MCAS Cherry Point, then took command of Airfield Operations Company and was the Air Boss of the Strategic Expeditionary Landing Field at ITX 1-14.  He deployed with MWSS-274 to OEF as a detachment Officer in Charge and Airfield Air Boss at Tactical Base Dwyer. 

Upon return from OEF, Maj Maple served as the 2nd MAW Fixed Wing Frag Officer in the G-3 before moving to MCB Quantico to attend resident CSC for the 2015-2016 academic year.  After graduating CSC with a Master of Military Studies degree, he checked into VMA-542 at MCAS Cherry Point and immediately deployed on the 31st MEU as the Director of Safety and Standardization (DoSS).  Following deployment, he assumed the duties of Aviation Maintenance Officer. 

In 2017, Maj Maple assumed the duties of MAG-14 DoSS.  During his time at MAG-14 Safety, he deployed as an Individual Augment to serve as the lead AFCENT Afghanistan Strategic Planner, supporting OFS and RSM from the CAOC at Al Udeid, Qatar.  Most recently, he served as the GFM Manager in the 2nd MAW G-3.

Maj Maple’s personal awards include the Air Medal with Strike/Flight (numeral 2), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (w/gold star), and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (w/gold star).
