Band, Small Ensemble Leader
Staff Sergeant Joshua W. Waldie

Staff Sergeant Joshua Waldie is a native of Virginia. Prior to enlisting in the Marine Corps, he worked as a studio musician in Los Angeles, CA. He began training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island in 2009, then afterwards continued his training at the Armed Forces School of Music at the Basic Musician Course. Upon graduation, he was assigned to the III MEF Band in Okinawa, Japan. There he served as a guitar instrumentalist, Sound Engineering Non-commissioned Officer in Charge, Jazz Combo Unit Leader, Rock Band Unit Leader, and transportation operator. He also attended the Sound Reinforcement Course in Norfolk, VA during his tenure in Japan.

In September of 2013, SSgt Waldie attended the Unit Leader Course at the Naval School of Music. Upon completion of the course, he went to the Marine Forces Pacific Band in Kaneohe Bay, HI where he served as a guitar instrumentalist, Acting Enlisted Conductor, and Acting Small Ensemble Leader.

In 2016, SSgt Waldie was selected to serve as a Recruiter for the Marine Corps and attended the Basic Recruiters School in San Diego, CA. Once he graduated, SSgt Waldie reported to Recruiting Station Los Angeles and operated at Recruiting Substation Hollywood. In addition to his recruiting duties, he also acted as a talent scout for the Musician Enlistment Option Program.

SSgt Waldie was selected for Small Ensemble Leader in 2018. The next year, he reported to the 2d Marine Aircraft Wing Band in Cherry Point, NC, where he currently serves as the Small Ensemble Leader.

SSgt Waldie’s personal awards are the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2nd award), Good conduct Medal (3rd award), and the Marine Corps Recruiting Ribbon.
