MARINE CORPS AIR STATION CHERRY POINT, N.C. – -- Gunnery Sgt. Lizabeth B. Fogleman and her family were recognized as the Havelock Military Family of the Quarter for their outstanding volunteer efforts in the surrounding Havelock, North Carolina community, July 28.
Fogleman actively volunteers at her church, a local elementary school, and coaches youth sports while still managing to successfully complete her tasks as an individual material readiness list asset manager and uniform victim advocate for Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 2.
According to Lt. Col. William R. Delorenzo the commanding officer of MWHS-2, Fogleman has balanced her life in the Marine Corps and her personal volunteer work, while being married to an active duty service member and raising her children. Her dedication to her work and family, coupled with her constant volunteer efforts has made her stand out amongst her peers.
“Gunnery Sgt. Fogleman has always been a go-getter,” said Delorenzo. “She is always a top performing Marine who does a great job balancing responsibilities at the squadron. Knowing that she does so much for the surrounding community with her family, while still maintaining such high standards in the Marine Corps displays a great example of what we want our Marines to strive to be.”
Fogleman has been an active volunteer in the community since she arrived at the air station in March 2015. She encourages other Marines to build stronger ties with the community as it brings them together and shows appreciation for each other.
“We have made volunteering together a tradition within my family,” said Fogleman. “It is something my family does because we genuinely enjoy helping others and showing the community the appreciation we have for them.”
Marines should go out and volunteer in their free time and get to know the community they live in, explained Fogleman. It opens up doors and allows the Marines to learn skills they didn’t have before.
“Receiving this award is an honor for my family and myself,” said Fogleman. “It is an experience we will not forget for the rest of our lives. We hope to continue actively volunteering and encouraging other Marines to give back to their community.”
