Major Gen. Matthew Glavy (left) poses with Capt. Craig Nygaard and his family at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C., June 26, 2017. Nygaard was awarded the Air Medal for operations conducted during Operation Inherent Resolve while assigned to Marine Attack Squadron 231, Marine Aircraft Group 14, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing. While forward deployed, Nygaard volunteered to return home early in order to deploy with a detachment from Marine Attack Squadron 542, MAG -14, 2nd MAW in support of the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit’s mission.
