MISSION

The mission of 2nd MAW is to conduct air operations in support of the Marine Forces to include offensive air support, antiair warfare, assault support, aerial reconnaissance, electronic warfare, and control of aircraft and missiles.

America's Air Wing Completes Service Level Training Exercise 3-21

U.S. Marines from Marine Air Group 29 based out of Marine Corps Air Station New River, N.C. recently completed Service Level Training Exercise 3-21, a series of exercises from March 28 to May 11 designed to integrate East coast and West coast Marines for realistic and difficult scenarios in a deployment-like environment. Within SLTE 3-21 were the Weapons and Tactics Instructor course, Integrated Training Exercise, Adversary Force Exercise, Mountain Training Exercise and the final force-on-force event, the Marine Air-Ground Task Force War Exercise.

Marine aviators use online gaming concept to enhance training

Before the dawn of online gaming, video games and computer games primarily featured two to four players sitting in the same room looking at the same screen while using a controller or keyboard to play a game where they either raced or battled with or against each other. Games such as Mario Kart, Goldeneye and Super Smash Brothers provided hours of entertainment and camaraderie for gamers as they competed with and against their friends and family. When online gaming came into prominence in the early 2000s, it allowed gamers to play with friends, and mostly complete strangers, from anywhere across the globe. Today, the multi-billion dollar industry connects more than 2 billion gamers across a broad spectrum of different types of games such as strategy, first person shooter, and role playing games. U.S. Marine Corps pilots stationed in Cherry Point, North Carolina have taken a piece of the concept of online gaming and used it to enhance their training.

24th MEU Conducts Live-Fire from the Sea

ABOARD USS IWO JIMA – This past weekend, Marines and Sailors of 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) conducted a company-sized live-fire amphibious raid during the unit’s Composite Unit Training Exercise (COMPTUEX)—the first time in recent history that a live-fire evolution of this type and scale has taken place during an East Coast-based MEU’s pre-deployment training.

Marines commanded by II Marine Expeditionary Force began a two-battalion air assault as a part of Exercise Deep Water today on Camp Lejeune (CLNC). An exercise of this size has not been conducted in almost 20 years and is roughly double the size of Exercise Steel Pike, conducted in 2019.
