LtCol Doyle graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science in History and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in May 2001.
He earned his Naval Flight Officer wings in September 2003, and reported to VMFAT-101 for training in the F/A-18 Hornet. Following the FRS, he reported to VMFA(AW)-121 and deployed in March 2005 to Iwakuni, Japan, as part of the Unit Deployment Program (UDP). He deployed again with the Green Knights in February 2007 to Al Asad Air Base in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF).
In November 2007, he reported to 1st ANGLICO as a Forward Air Controller (FAC) and deployed with them in March 2008 in support of OIF. During his deployment, he served as the Air Officer for a Supporting Arms Liaison Team in direct support of the 3rd Iraqi Army Brigade and was primarily posted in Diyala Province and Sadr City Bagdad, Iraq.
After completion of his FAC tour in May 2009, he reported back to VMFA(AW)-121. He graduated from Weapons and Tactics Instructor course in 2010 and deployed with VMFA (AW)-121 to Iwakuni, Japan, as part of the UDP. Toward the end of his second fleet tour, he filled an IA billet with I MEF FWD and deployed to Camp Leatherneck in January 2012 as part of the Fires and Effects Coordination Cell as the JTAC Manager and Fixed Wing Planner for RC Southwest. While deployed, he was selected for attendance of Foreign PME at French Command and Staff College.
In June 2012, he reported to the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, CA, graduating in December 2012. The following month, he moved to Paris, France, for an 18 month course of instruction, graduating in June 2014, also completing a Master’s degree in European Strategic Studies from École Pratiques des Hautes Études, a part of the Sorbonne, Paris, France.
Returning to the F/A-18 community in July 2014, he reported to VMFA(AW)-224 in Beaufort, SC. After completing refresher training, he took over as the VMFA(AW)-224 Operations Officer and deployed in Sept 2015 to Iwakuni, Japan, as part of another UDP rotation. Upon his return, he was selected to serve as the MAG-31 Operations Officer from May 2016-March 2017.
In March 2017, he reported to the Deputy Commandant for Aviation at HQMC. After reporting to the Branch Head of Aviation Plans, and Policy (APP), he served as the APP liaison within the F-35 Branch. Most recently he has served as the 2MAW Plans OIC in the G3.
He is a graduate of TACP School, Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course (2010), Air Command Element (ACE) Battle staff Officer’s Course, NATO Air Battle Planning Course, and is a certified Forward Air Controller (Airborne) Instructor.
LtCol Doyle’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with numeral "7", the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (Gold Star in lieu of third award), and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (Gold Star in lieu of second award).
