2D MAW Sergeant Major
Sergeant Major Rodney E. Nevinger

Sergeant Major Nevinger enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on April 4, 1998 from Killeen, Texas.  He attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego and completed military occupational training at Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry-West earning the 0311, Riflemen military occupational specialty.

As an infantryman, Sergeant Major Nevinger has been assigned to 1st Battalion, 1st Marines and 2d Battalion, 1st Marines, where he has held every billet in a Marine rifle company from riflemen to company gunnery sergeant.  With these battalions, he has had the opportunity to deploy with the 11th, 15th, and 31st Marine Expeditionary Units in support of Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom, as well as, the Unit Deployment Program-Okinawa.  Additionally, he has served tours of duty in the supporting establishment as a drill instructor and senior drill instructor at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego and as the Assistant Marine Officer Instructor at The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina.

Sergeant Major Nevinger was promoted to first sergeant on September 1, 2013 and was assigned to 3d Law Enforcement Battalion, MEF Headquarters Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force for duty as the Unit Senior Enlisted Leader.  In July 2016, he received orders to 3d Marine Raider Battalion, Marine Raider Regiment, Marine Special Operations Command where he served as the Headquarters Company Unit Senior Enlisted Leader and as the battalion's Command Senior Enlisted Leader from January 2017 to October 2017.  He was frocked to his present rank on March 28, 2018 and subsequently executed orders to Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 2, 2d Marine Aircraft Wing where he served as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader until December 2019.  On December 20, 2019, he transferred to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 264, Marine Aircraft Group 26, 2d Marine Aircraft Wing where he served as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader until July 24, 2020.  After successfully deactivating the squadron as part of the Force Design 2030 he transferred to Marine Wing Communications Squadron 28, Marine Aircraft Control Group 28, 2d Marine Aircraft Wing, where he served as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader until June 25, 2021.  Following this assignment, he transferred to 3d Marine Regiment, 3d Marine Division where he successfully re-designated the unit on March 3, 2022 to the 3d Marine Littoral Regiment where he proudly served as the regimental sergeant major until January 12, 2023.
