Staff Sergeant Joshua Waldie is a native of Virginia where he enlisted in May of 2009. Prior to enlisting, he was a studio musician in Los Angeles, CA from 2004 to 2008.
SSgt Waldie graduated from recruit training on September 4th of 2009 from Parris Island, and subsequently reported to the Armed Forces School of Music in Norfolk, VA where he studied guitar performance. In June of 2010 he reported to the III MEF Band in Okinawa, Japan where he served as a guitar instrumentalist, sound engineering non-commissioned officer in charge, jazz combo unit leader, rock band unit leader, and transportation operator. He also attended the Sound Reinforcement Course in Norfolk, VA during his tenure in Japan.
In September of 2013, then Sgt Waldie, reported in to the Naval School of Music for the Unit Leader Course where he studied conducting, drum major techniques, and musical leadership. In May of 2014 he reported in to the Marine Forces Pacific Band in Keneohe Bay, HI where he served as a guitar instrumentalist, acting enlisted conductor, and acting small ensemble leader. In April of 2016 he reported in to Basic Recruiters School in San Diego, CA.
In July of 2016 SSgt Waldie reported in to Recruiting Station Los Angeles where he served as canvassing recruiter for Recruiting Substation Hollywood, and acted as a talent scout for the Musician Enlistment Option Program. In January of 2018 he was selected for Small Ensemble Leader. In August of 2019 he reported in to the 2ND Marine Aircraft Wing Band as the Small Ensemble Leader.
SSgt Waldie’s personal awards are the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2nd award), Good conduct Medal (3rd award), and the Marine Corps Recruiting Ribbon.
