Sergeant Major Jeremy Paul Johnson is a native of Wisconsin. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in May of 1999 and went on to graduate bootcamp from Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, CA, 15 August 1999 and attended Infantry Training Battalion, SOI West, where he received the MOS designator 0311.
He was assigned to 2nd Battalion 4th Marines, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. Upon arriving he was promoted to Private First Class. During his tour with 2/4, PFC Johnson deployed with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) from 1999 to 2000 and was promoted to Lance Corporal. After attending multiple schools, to include Infantry Squad Leaders Course, on July 1st, 2001 he was promoted to Corporal. Corporal Johnson was again deployed with the 31st MEU (Special Operations Capable) from July of 2002 to July of 2003. During this time he filled the billet of Squad Leader and Maritime Special Purpose Force Section Leader. In November of 2002 he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
Upon returning from deployment with the 31st MEU, Sergeant Johnson executed orders to Recruiting School at MCRD, San Diego, in November of 2003. After graduating recruiters school, he was stationed at Recruiting Station Nashville, Recruiting Sub Station Cookeville, TN. While on recruiting duty Sergeant Johnson filled the billets of canvassing recruiter and station commander. January 2nd, 2006 he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant.
In December of 2006, Staff Sergeant Johnson executed orders to 1st Bn 2nd Marines, 2nd Marine Division. Upon checking in, he was assigned to Charlie Company where he deployed in March of 2007 and again in September of 2008 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, serving as a Platoon Sergeant for both deployments.
In June of 2009, Staff Sergeant Johnson executed orders to Marine Barracks Washington, 8th and I. On November 1st, 2009 Staff Sergeant Johnson was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. While at Marine Barracks Washington Gunnery Sergeant Johnson filled the billet of Marine Corps Funeral Director, Silent Drill Platoon Platoon Sergeant, Company Gunnery Sergeant for Bravo Company, and MBW Drill Master.
In September of 2011, Gunnery Sergeant Johnson executed orders to 3rd Battalion 9th Marines where he served in Weapons Company as the Platoon Sergeant for the Combined Anti Armor Team and Weapons Company Operations Chief. In October of 2012 Gunnery Sergeant Johnson forward deployed to Khan Neshin District, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. After returning from deployment in May of 2013, Gunnery Sergeant Johnson executed orders to School Of Infantry East.
While at SOI-E Gunnery Sergeant Johnson served as the Senior Enlisted Advisor to Infantry Training Company, Advanced Infantry Training Bn and Headquarters Company First Sergeant. In January of 2015 Gunnery Sergeant Johnson was frocked to the rank of First Sergeant. As a First Sergeant, he served until February of 2016 as the Fox Company First Sergeant, MCTBn.
In February of 2016, First Sergeant Johnson executed orders to 1st Bn 10th Marines where he served as the Battery First Sergeant for India Battery 3/10. In February of 2017, First Sergeant Johnson executed orders to the Regimental Headquarters Battery, 10th Marine Regiment where he served as the Regimental Headquarters Battery First Sergeant until January of 2019.
In January of 2019 First Sergeant Johnson was frocked to the rank of Sergeant Major and executed orders to 2nd Bn 8th Marines. While serving as the Battalion Sergeant Major, he deployed the battalion in support of the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, where they supported Operation Spartan Shield in the CENTCOM area of operation.
In October of 2020, Sergeant Major Johnson executed orders to VMAT 203 to serve as the Squadron Sergeant Major. In April of 2021, Sergeant Major Johnson executed orders to Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 2 where he currently serves as the Squadron Sergeant Major.
Sergeant Major Johnson's personal awards include; the Meritorious Service Medal (2), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (7), Combat Action Ribbon, and the Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
