A native of DeFuniak Springs, FL, Major Sarah King was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in February 2012 following her graduation from the University of West Florida in late 2011. Following The Basic School and Air Defense Control Officer Course, 2ndLt King reported to Marine Air Control Squadron 2 (MACS-2) aboard Cherry Point, NC in November 2013.
From November 2013 to October 2016 Major King served in numerous billets while assigned to MACS-2 to include Platoon Commander, Squadron Adjutant, and Company Executive Officer. Additionally, she supported multiple exercises, leading the Tactical Air Operations Center Detachment and earning her Weapons Director qualification.
In October 2016 Major King reported to Task Force-Southwest, Police Advisor Team where she served as Aviation and Operations Advisor and Assistant Operations Officer. During this time she deployed to Helmand Province, Afghanistan in support of Operation FREEDOM’S SENTINEL and NATO’s RESOLUTE SUPPORT. She conducted over 150 advising engagements for operational planning with the Afghan National Police at the Zone, Brigade, and Provincial level. Additionally, she was responsible for coordinating life support for Combat Outpost- Bost via air for the 90 Marine advisor and security element. Major King redeployed in 2018 and reported to Expeditionary Warfare School in Quantico, VA.
In May 2019 Major King reported to Officer Candidates School (OCS) where she served as an Academics Instructor, Platoon Commander, Company Executive Officer, Company Commander, Assistant Operations Officer, and Operations Officer. Major King served in key leadership billets at OCS while the Marine Corps navigated entry-level training through a global pandemic. Major King served at OCS for 10 training cycles, earning the Drill Instructor Ribbon.
Major King reported to Marine Air Control Group 28 in August 2022 where she served as the Future Operations Officer until her selection as the Tactical Air Command Center (TACC) Company Commander in December 2022. Major King assumed duties as the Marine Air Support Squadron 1 Executive Officer in June 2024.
Major King’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with combat device, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
