ATS Mission. ATS, through its Marine Aviation Training System Sites (MATSS), will prioritize training, standardization, and evaluation that reflects our commitment to preparing for combat and being fully integrated with training and readiness standards  across the six functions of Marine Aviation. In doing so we will sustain an integrated training system in order to provide the MAGTF Commander with combat ready units.  ATS will focus on Live/Virtual/ Constructive training across the MAGTF, leveraging and enhancing emerging simulation technologies & digital interoperability.  ATS is the 2d MAW Commanding General’s standardization and evaluation unit in direct support of his MAG and MACG commanders.  ATS tasks include but are not limited to:

Aviation virtual training system planning, development, growth, enhancements, and vision (including Distributed Mission Operations or DMO and building the USMC Marine Air-Ground Task Force {MAGTF} Live/Virtual/Constructive {LVC} capabilities)
• Virtual exercise (such as Virtual Flag and Emerald Warrior) coordination
• Simulator device and contractor instructor standardization and evaluation
• Simulator device post-modification/maintenance functional checks
• NATOPS and Instrument evaluation and Instrument Ground School (IGS) standardization
• Flight leadership standardization and evaluation
• Local management of the Training Management Program (TMP)
• 2d MAW unit pre-deployment training and evaluation
• Serving as the MAW and MAG/MACG commanders’ coordination cell for weapons’ school and Crew Resource Management Instructor (CRMI) school fleet support.

MATSS Mission. To manage, support and facilitate aviation training services, products, and solutions through collaboration with the warfighter, industry, and government acquisition professionals in order to provide an optimized, tactically-relevant training system.

An important aspect of the ATS concept is its alignment under the operational chain of command. Through its uniformed tactical experts and acquisition professional personnel (including Contracting Officer Representatives (COR) and In-Service Engineer Office (ISEO) personnel), MATSS is the operator's link to the II Marine Expeditionary Force (II MEF) Battle Simulation Center, Commander Naval Air Forces Atlantic (COMNAVAIRLANT), Training and Education Command (TECOM), Naval Air Weapons Center-Training Systems Division (NAWC-TSD), Program Manager, Training Systems (PM TRASYS), Commander, Naval Air Systems Command (COMNAVAIRSYSCOM), Marine Corps Combat Development Command (MCCDC), and Headquarters Marine Corps Deputy Commandant for Aviation (HQMC DC/A) for aviation training systems.  Through this higher headquarters chain and in collaboration with our industry partners, mission requirements will drive acquisition processes.  And through this chain ATS fleet representatives assigned to MATSS, in coordination with the MAGs, MACG, and squadrons, can more efficiently and effectively drive operational aviation training requirements and influence their prioritization through the TMP.
