AL ASAD, Iraq-Standing for liberty, pride and freedom, the United States flag is a symbol for independence. Marines of the forward deployed 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing are proud of the Stars and Stripes. Each day someone?s personal flag is flown here for reasons special to each individual. Some are flown in aircraft and some wave on the flagpole. Since March this unit, serving in the Al Anbar province, has flown more than 165 personal flags and have more than 70 waiting to be raised (at the time this story posted).
