U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Col. Trevor Felter, attaches campaign streamers to his squadron’s colors during a ceremony at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina, March 5, 2021. The Marines of Marine Attack Squadron (VMA) 542 celebrated the 77th anniversary of their squadron being formed with a ceremony that focused on the squadron’s history as well as rededicating each Marine to service to the United States. VMA-542 was established during World War 2 and has seen service in each major conflict the United States has taken part in to include counter-insurgency operations in Iraq and Afghanistan and more recently against ISIS. The squadron will be deactivated in fiscal year 2022 as part of the Marine Corps’ force redesign plan. Felter is the commanding officer of VMA-542. VMA-542 is a subordinate unit of 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, which is the aviation combat element of II Marine Expeditionary Force. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl. Yuritzy Gomez)
