Command Biography
MACS-2 Executive Officer
Major James J. Wuestman

Major Wuestman enlisted in the Marine Corps in September 2000. Upon completion of recruit training, he reported to 29 Palms, California for training as an Air Control Electronic Operator. Upon completion of training, he received orders to Marine Air Control Squadron 2 (MACS-2), Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, North Carolina. While stationed in Cherry Point, he deployed to CENTCOM to support Operation Southern Watch in 2002. He was promoted to Corporal (meritoriously) in December 2002 and deployed to Kuwait and Iraq to support OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM in February of 2003. In May of 2004 he deployed to Afghanistan to support OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM and was promoted to Sergeant in July of 2004.

In March 2005 he reported to 29 Palms, California for Tactical Air Defense Controllers Course and upon completion he reported back to MACS-2 and subsequently deployed to Iraq to support OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM once again. In October 2006 he was selected to Staff Sergeant and selected to the BOOST / MECEP programs.

In November 2007, Staff Sergeant Wuestman reported to the NROTC at Norwich University, Northfield, Vermont where he was assigned as a MECEP student.  He was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in March 2011. He earned his B. A. in History and subsequently commissioned as a 2ndLt in May 2011. Upon graduation, he received orders to The Basic School in Quantico, Virginia, where he graduated in January 2012. Following TBS, he received orders to Marine Air Control Squadron 2 (MACS-2), Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, North Carolina.  

In June 2013, he was promoted to 1stLt and was subsequently deployed with the Tactical Air Operations Center (TAOC) to Afghanistan to support OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM once again, where he served as one of two Senior Air Directors supporting Combat Air Operations until November 2013. In September of 2014 he attended the Weapons and Tactics Instructors Course at Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One (MAWTS-1) aboard MCAS Yuma, Arizona. After graduation he served as the MACS-2 Weapon and Tactics Training Program Officer and as the Assistant Operations Officer until June of 2015.

In July 2015 he was promoted to Captain and reported to MAWTS-1 to serve as part of the MAWTS-1 instructor staff. While there he served one year as the opposition force coordinator within the operation department and then spent his last two years serving as the TAOC Division Head within the C3 department. In November 2017 he was selected to the Leadership, Education, and Development (LEAD) program through the commandant’s career level education board.

In April 2018, Captain Wuestman reported to the United States Naval Academy (USNA) to serve as a LEAD Instructor within the Leadership Ethics and Law department and primarily as a company officer as part of the Commandant’s staff within the Brigade of Midshipmen. During his first year, he was sent to study at the George Washington University where he earned a Masters in Leadership, Education, and Development. In April 2020, he was promoted to Major and subsequently served as the 2nd Battalion Executive Officer. During this tour, he completed the Marine Corps Expeditionary Warfare School and the Command and Staff College distance education programs.

In December of 2020, he was selected to the resident Command and Staff College at Marine Corps University (MCU) in Quantico, Virginia. Major Wuestman reported to MCU in July of 2021 and completed the course of instruction in June of 2022 earning a Master of Military Studies. He then received orders to Marine Air Control Group 28, Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, North Carolina. During his time at MACG-28, he served as the Assistant Operations Officer. In June of 2023 he reported to MACS-2 to serve as the Operations Officer.  

Major Westman’s personal awards include Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, gold star in lieu of third award and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, gold star in lieu of second award.
