Command Biography

MWSS-271 Command Senior Enlisted Leader
Sergeant Major Kelvin E. Carrington Jr.

Sergeant Major Carrington is a native of Brooklyn New York.  He enlisted in the Marine Corps and attended recruit training in Delta Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina in March 2003. He reported to the School of Infantry, Camp Geiger, Jacksonville, North Carolina for Marine Combat Training. He was then assigned to Fort Leonard Wood Army Base, Marine Corps Detachment, Missouri for MOS school where he earned the MOS of 3531, Motor Transportation Operator.   

Upon completion of school, Private Carrington reported for duty to Marine Wing Support Squadron 271, Cherry Point, North Carolina in September 2003. In October 2003 he was promoted to rank of Private First Class. In January 2004, Private First-Class Carrington was reassigned to the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit. Private First-Class Carrington was deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Mountain Shield. In July 2004 he was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal. He was then attached to Wing Driver School Group 27 as NCOIC. In September 2005, he was promoted to the rank of Corporal. October 2005 Corporal Carrington was assigned to Marine Support Squadron 274. He deployed to Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom from February 2006 to September 2006. In January 2007, Corporal Carrington was promoted to rank of Sergeant.

January 2007, Sergeant Carrington reported to Marine Corps Engineer School Head Quarters Service Company.  He then served in many billets to include Platoon Sergeant and Maintenance Chief.

October 2009, Sergeant Carrington reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina for Drill Instructor duty. Upon completion of school, he was assigned to the 1st Recruit Training Battalion Bravo Company. In November 2012 Sergeant Carrington was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant. December 2012 Staff Sergeant Carrington completed his rigorous tour as a Drill Instructor successfully.

December 2012, Staff Sergeant Carrington reported to 2nd Marine Logistic Group, Combat Logistic Battalion 22 to serve as the Motor Transportation Chief. During his tour Staff Sergeant Carrington deployed with 22D Marine Expeditionary Unit (22MEU) to provide combat service support to Basic Landing Team (BLT) 1/6 and Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron VMA-263 in operations Eager Lion, Sea Soldier, and Djibouti Sustainment.

April 2015, Staff Sergeant Carrington was selected for Assistant Military Officer Instructor (AMOI) United States Naval Academy. Where he served as the Senior Enlisted Leader for 1st Company and 3rd Company. During this time Staff Sergeant Carrington was also selected to become the Enlisted Representative and running back position coach for the Navy Sprint Football team. August 2017, Staff Sergeant Carrington was promoted to rank of Gunnery Sergeant. Upon completion of his tour Gunnery Sergeant Carrington completed his Associates degree in General Studies and was inducted as one of the honorary members of Class of 2018.

May 2018, Gunnery Sergeant Carrington reported 1st Marine Raider Support Battalion (1MRSB). During this time Gunnery Sergeant Carrington was hand selected to deploy to Iraq with Special Operations Joint Task Force (SOJTF). He served in several billets as the Logistics Company First Sergeant and Company Gunnery Sergeant.

June 2021, First Sergeant Carrington reported to Marine Wing Communications Squadron 38 Miramar California. During this time First Sergeant Carrington served as the Company First Sergeant for Alpha and Head Quarters Service Company 1stSgt.

July 2023, First Sergeant Carrington reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego and was assigned to 3D Recruit Training Battalion. During this time First Sergeant Carrington served as India Company First Sergeant.

July 2025, Sergeant Major Carrington reported to Marine Wing Support Squadron 271, Cherry Point North Carolina and is currently serving as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader for the Squadron. 
 
His personal decorations include the Joint Service Accommodation Medal, Navy and Marie Corps Commendation Medal w/Two Gold Star, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal w/One Gold Star, Combat Action Ribbon, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.

2nd Marine Aircraft Wing
