Command Biography
MWSS-271 Executive Officer
Major Samuel L. Batchelder

Major Samuel Batchelder commissioned in the Marine Corps in May of 2012 from the University of Minnesota NROTC Program. He reported for duty as a Special Projects Officer for Marine Corps Recruiting Command Quantico, VA in January of 2013 and subsequently reported to The Basic School (TBS) in April of 2013. 

Upon graduation of TBS he reported to Marine Air Control Squadron 1 (MACS-1), Yuma, AZ. While assigned to MACS-1 Major Batchelder held multiple billets to include; Detachment Operations Officer, Communications Platoon Commander, S-3 Training Officer, Headquarters and Services Detachment Commander and Air Traffic Control Detachment Commander. During this tour Major Batchelder participated in multiple exercises to include Scorpion Fire, Angel Thunder, and the Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course as a Marine Air Traffic Control Mobile Team Leader. 

In July of 2017 Major Batchelder reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Recruit Training Regiment, 2d Recruit Training Battalion as a Series Commander, completing seven recruit training cycles. In May of 2019 Major Batchelder was selected to serve as the Staff Secretary for Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego and the Western Recruiting Region. 

Major Batchelder was selected on the Commandant’s Career Level Education Board and attended the Expeditionary Warfare School Course 2020-2021 in Quantico, VA.

In June of 2021 Major Batchelder reported to Marine Air Control Squadron 2 (MACS-2) Cherry Point, NC. His billets have included Weapons and Tactics Training Program OIC and Assistant Operations Officer. During his tour at MACS-2 he has completed the Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course and participated in Exercise Cold Response 22 in Norway. Following Cold Response 22 Major Batchelder supported NATO during Operation Baltic Watchtower and deployed to Lithuania and the Combined Air Operations Center in Eudem Germany.

In December of 2022 Major Batchelder reported to Marine Air Control Group 28, to serve as an Assistant Operations Officer.

In May of 2023 Major Batchelder Reported to Marine Wing Support Squadron 271 to serve as the Executive Officer, where he currently resides.

His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
