MWSS-272 Executive Officer
Major Matthew J. McLane

Major Matthew McLane graduated from the University of Illinois and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in 2004 through the NROTC commissioning program.  Upon completion of The Basic School in November 2004, Second Lieutenant McLane reported to flight training at NAS Pensacola.  He was designated a Naval Aviator in January 2007. 

After receiving his wings, First Lieutenant McLane reported to HMT-302 at MCAS New River for initial training in the CH-53E. In June 2007, Lieutenant McLane reported to HMH-462 at MCAS Miramar and completed a split deployment to Iraq and Afghanistan in 2008 in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. Captain McLane completed a subsequent split deployment to Iraq and Afghanistan in 2009. In 2011, he was attached to HMM-268 (REIN) in support of the 11th MEU and deployed to the 5th Fleet Operational Area on the USS Makin Island and the USS New Orleans. During his five years with HMH-462, Captain McLane held the billets of Adjutant, Legal Officer, Administration and Logistics Officer, Aviation Safety Officer, and Airframes Officer. 

In August 2012, Captain McLane reported to Marine Heavy Helicopter Training Squadron 302 (HMHT-302), Marine Corps Air Station New River, NC. During his three-year tour, he held the billets of Human Affairs Officer/Substance Abuse Control Officer, Assistant Operations Officer, and Operations Officer. While serving at HMHT-302, Major McLane was promoted to his current rank. In 2015, Major McLane attended resident Intermediate Level School PME at Command and Staff College Quantico, VA. Following resident PME, he was reassigned to Marine Aircraft Group 29. 

In July 2016, Major McLane was assigned as the Assistant Aircraft Maintenance Officer and subsequently the Aircraft Maintenance Officer of HMH-461. In May 2018, Major McLane was assigned to HMH-366 where he detached four aircraft and 47 Marines to VMM-264 (REIN) in support of the 22d MEU and deployed again to the 5th Fleet Operational Area on the USS Kearsarge. Following the deployment, Major McLane was assigned to Marine Aircraft Group 29 as the Director of Safety and Standardization. 

In December 2019, Major McLane reported to Marine Wing Support Squadron 274 where he was assigned as the Executive Officer. 

Major McLane is a graduate of the Expeditionary Warfare School Non-resident Course and Command and Staff College Resident and Non-resident Courses.  

He has 2,600 mishap free flight hours and holds designations as Night System Instructor, Assault Flight Leader, and Air Mission Commander.

His personal decorations include the Air Medal with numeral 4, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
