MWSS-273 Commanding Officer
Lieutenant Colonel Jason W. Britain

Lieutenant Colonel Britain is a native of Texas and graduate of Texas Christian University. He began his career upon enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1997.

From 1997 through 2001, Lieutenant Colonel Britain served onboard the USS Constellation (CV-64) in San Diego, California, deploying in support of Operation Southern Watch. Following his enlistment, he attended college, was accepted into the PLC Program, and received his commission in 2004.

Lieutenant Colonel Britain began his career in the aviation community upon entering the flight program. He was designated as a F/A-18 FRS pilot but later pursued a lateral transition and was redesignated as a logistics officer in 2009.

In 2009 Lieutenant Colonel Britain reported to Marine Wing Support Squadron 171 in Iwakuni, Japan, where he served until 2012 as the Motor Transport Operations Company Commander, Air Operations Company Commander, and Operations Officer in support of Theater Security Cooperation Exercises in the Pacific.

In 2012 Lieutenant Colonel Britain was ordered to 3d Battalion, 3d Marines in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, as the Battalion Logistics Officer. He deployed to Okinawa as part of the Unit Deployment Program before his transfer in 2014 to Combat Logistics Battalion 3, where he served in the billets of Support Company Commander and Operations Officer.

Lieutenant Colonel Britain attended language and cultural training at the State Department’s Foreign Service Institute in 2015 in preparation for attendance to Command and Staff College in Oslo, Norway. At the completion of Intermediate Level School he was transferred to the Norwegian Army Staff Headquarters to serve as the USMC Exchange Officer and facilitate NATO ally and partner integration in the high north.

Upon returning from Norway, Lieutenant Colonel Britain was assigned as the Command Element Logistics Officer for the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit from 2018-2020, deploying with the BATAAN Amphibious Ready Group in support of three Geographic Combatant Commands.

Before reporting to Marine Wing Support Squadron 273, Lieutenant Colonel Britain was assigned to the MAGTF Staff Training Program to support the training of senior commanders and their staffs in MAGTF operations within the context of a Joint and/or Combined Task Force environment. He served in the roles of Logistics Section Head and Operations Officer from 2020-2023.

Lieutenant Colonel Britain holds certifications as a Weapons and Tactics Instructor and Expeditionary Logistics Instructor. He is a graduate of the Marine Corps Expeditionary Warfare School (DEP) and Norwegian Joint Defence University.
