MWSS-273 Executive Officer
Major Thomas R. Abbott

Major Thomas R. Abbott graduated from Old Dominion University in December 2003 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Management.  Upon graduation, he entered Officer Candidate School following in October 2004 and received his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in December 2004.
 
Major Abbott completed The Basic School in July 2005 and entered flight training in Pensacola, Florida.  From September 2005 to September 2007, Major Abbott completed Primary Flight training and Advanced Flight Training. In September 2007, Major Abbott earned his wings and departed for HMH-302 aboard MCAS New River, North Carolina for training and designation as a CH-53E pilot. 

Upon successful completion of training in the CH-53E in May 2007, Major Abbott joined the operating forces assigned to HMH-361. While serving with the squadron, Major Abbott held billets as a Schedule Writer and Aviation Safety Officer.  He deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from February to July 2009 and Operation Enduring Freedom from August 2010 to February 2011.

Upon completion of his Afghanistan deployment, Major Abbott reported to 1st Tank Battalion and assumed the duties as Battalion Air Officer.  While assigned to the Battalion, Major Abbott deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan as a part of the 1st Brigade Afghan National Civil Order Police Training Team. After 7 months of deployment, Major Abbott returned home and reported to Recruiting Station Springfield, MA in September 2012.

While assigned to Recruiting Station Springfield, Major Abbott served as both Operations Officer and Executive Officer.  After completion of his 3 year tour with the RS, Major Abbott check onboard USS BATAAN to serve as the Air Operations Officer.  During his tour, he deployed to the 5th and 6th Fleet Area of Responsibilities in support of CENTCOM operations.  While deployed, Major Abbott was given the opportunity to also serve as the Assistant Operations Officer for USS BATAAN.  Upon completion of a 7 month deployment, Major Abbott reported as the Operations Officer for Eastern Recruiting Region, Parris Island, South Carolina.  

During his tour with Eastern Recruiting Region, Major Abbott served as Operations Officer, Training Team Officer, and Commanding Officer for Recruiting Station Cleveland.  Once completing his tour, Major Abbott was assigned to MWSS-274 to serve as the Airfield Operations Company Commander.  After supporting Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course 1-21, Major Abbott deactivated his company and was assigned to his current billet as the MWSS-273 Executive Officer.   

Major Abbott’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal (5 Strike/Flight awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (w/ Gold Star) and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (w/ 2 Gold Stars).
