MALS-14 Command Senior Enlisted Leader
Sergeant Major Kevin L. Mason

Sergeant Major Mason is a native of Oregon.  He joined the Delayed Entry Program November 10th 1999 and attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California. Upon completion of recruit training and Military Police School, he was assigned to Marine Wing Support Squadron 373, Marine Aircraft Group 11, III Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Ca. where he was a member of the Fleet Assistance Program and attached to Headquarters and Headquarters Support Squadron, Provost Marshals Office where he served as a Military Police officer.  In 2003, he deployed to Kuwait and Iraq in support of Operations Southern Watch, Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom as machine gunner for a Convoy Security vehicle team. 

After returning from deployment, he was selected as a Personal Security Detail member for the Commanding General of the III Marine Aircraft Wing and in 2004, deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II.  Upon returning from deployment, he reported to Recruiters School in San Diego, Ca.  Upon graduating, he received orders to Recruiting Station Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as a Canvassing Recruiter.  In 2006 he was selected as Recruiter of the Year and received a meritorious promotion to the rank of Staff Sergeant. 
 
In 2007 he executed orders to Headquarters Battalion, Marine Corps Base, Kaneohe Bay, Hi. where he served as a Platoon Sergeant and Watch Commander for the Provost Marshals Office.  In 2010 he was selected by Marine Forces Pacific, Chief of Staff as a member of the Marine Leadership Developmental Exchange Program and subsequently deployed to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia as part of a two Marine team to establish a Non-commissioned Officer (NCO) Course and developed curriculum for a Staff NCO and Senior Leaders Symposium within the Mongolian Armed Forces Academy.  

Upon his return, he executed orders to Camp Pendleton, Ca. where he was assigned to Security and Emergency Services Battalion, Provost Marshals’ Office as Platoon Sergeant and Patrol Supervisor, Company Gunnery Sergeant and later served as the Military Police Company First Sergeant.  

In July 2013 he was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant and executed orders to 3d Law Enforcement Battalion, III MEF Headquarters Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa Japan where he served as the Military Police Company “C” Company Gunnery Sergeant and Company First Sergeant, Non-lethal Weapons Instructor Chief Trainer - Asia Pacific, Headquarters and Service Company Gunnery Sergeant, and Service Company First Sergeant for III Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group.  In March 2016 he was frocked to First Sergeant and executed orders to Bethesda Maryland where he served as the Detachment First Sergeant for the Marine Liaison Office at the Walter Reed Medical Center, and the Charlie Company First Sergeant for Wounded Warrior Battalion East.  During his off time, he graduated Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in Military Studies. 

In June 2019 he executed orders to 2d Battalion 6th Marines, 2d Marine Division where he served as the Weapons Company First Sergeant and Headquarters and Service Company First Sergeant.  During this time, he deployed to the Arctic Circle, Setermoen, Norway in support of Marine Rotational Forces – Europe 20-1.  In December 2020 he was frocked to his current rank of Sergeant Major and reported to Marine Attack Squadron 223, Marine Aircraft Group 14, II Marine Aircraft Wing to serve as the Squadron Sergeant Major.  In November 2021 he executed orders to Recruiting Station Columbus where he served as Recruiting Station Sergeant Major.   
       
Sergeant Major Mason’s personal decorations include: The Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two gold stars and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with three gold stars.
