Command Biography
VMA-231 Executive Officer
Major Thomas K. Brougher

Maj Brougher enlisted in the Marine Corps in October of 2005 and served as an 0331 Machine Gunner with 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines. In 2007, he deployed with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit to Al Anbar province in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Upon return from deployment, he attended Marine Infantry Squad Leaders course and graduated with honors. In 2009, he deployed with the 31st Marine Expeditionary to Okinawa, Japan. In 2010, He was reassigned to the School of Infantry (West) and was recognized as the Class Honor man of his Combat Instructor School Class. After completion of Combat Instructor School, Sergeant Brougher was assigned to Alpha Company where he trained four classes of Marine Infantrymen. In 2011, Sergeant Brougher was selected for the Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education Program as was reassigned to Arizona State University. In December 2012, Maj Brougher completed is Bachelor’s of Science in Political Science and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant.

After completing the Basic School in 2013, Second Lieutenant Brougher entered flight training at NAS Pensacola, Florida with follow-on training at NAS Whiting Field, Florida with VT-6. He was winged a Naval Aviator in October 2016 at NAS Meridian, MS. After completion of flight training with VT-7 he reported to Marine Attack Training Squadron 203, Cherry Point, North Carolina, for training in the AV-8B Harrier.

First Lieutenant Brougher reported to Marine Attack Squadron 231 in Cherry Point, North Carolina in November of 2017 as served as the S-1 Officer in Charge. In 2019, Captain Brougher deployed with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel. Upon returning from deployment, he attended Aviation Safety School and served as the squadron’s Aviation Safety Officer.

Following completion of his first tour of duty, Captain Brougher was reassigned to Marine Attack Training Squadron 203 where he served as a Daily Schedule Writer and Assistant Operations Officer. In 2021, Marine Attack Squadron 203 was redesignated as the AV-8B Fleet Replacement Detachment and Maj Brougher served as the Operations Officer.

In August 2023, Maj Brougher was reassigned to Marine Attack Squadron where he served as the Executive Officer. Maj Brougher has accumulated over 1000 hours in the AV-8B. His personal decorations include the Air Medal Strike/Flight, Combat Action Ribbon and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
