Command Biography

VMFA-231 Command Senior Enlisted Advisor
Master Sergeant Allen S. Ravan

Master Sergeant Allen Shane Ravan is a native of Charleston, SC. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in June 2007, beginning his aviation maintenance career shortly thereafter.

In January 2008, he reported to Marine Attack Squadron 211 (VMA-211) aboard MCAS Yuma, Arizona, serving as the Airframes Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge (NCOIC). He executed a PCA to Marine Attack Squadron 311 (VMA-311), serving as Airframes NCOIC with from June 2008 until March 2009. From March 2009 to May 2013, he held dual roles as Airframes NCOIC and Duty Controller with Marine Attack Squadron 513 (VMA-513), where he oversaw maintenance priorities, operations, and flight scheduling. Effectively assisting in the sundown of VMA-513, he received orders to MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina.

In June 2013, he joined Marine Attack Squadron 231 (VMA-231) as Quality Assurance and Airframes Division Chief, a billet he held until April 2017. He then transitioned to the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Marine Unit (CNATT MARUNIT), where he served as the AV-8B Airframes Course Supervisor until September 2020, managing curriculum and instructor development for aviation maintenance training.

From September 2020 to December 2022, he was Maintenance Chief and Maintenance Control Chief at Marine Attack Squadron 542 (VMA-542). He executed the final deployment for VMA-542 and was a critical member of the sundown ceremony for the squadron. After the sundown of VMA-542, he served as an Inspector for the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing (2dMAW) from December 2022 to April 2025, conducting thorough inspections to ensure compliance with aviation maintenance standards throughout all units.

In April 2025, he returned to VMA-231 as Maintenance Chief, a role he held until October 2025 when the squadron sundowned and transitioned from the AV-8B Harrier to the F-35B. Currently, he serves as Maintenance Chief with Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 231 (VMFA-231), where he continues to lead maintenance efforts to maintain aircraft readiness and mission capability.
