VMM-261 Commanding Officer
Lieutenant Colonel Bryan G. Hole

Lieutenant Colonel Bryan "Ash" Hole attended Texas A&M University, earning a bachelor's degree in Economics.  He reported to The Basic School in November 2005 and designated a Naval Aviator on August 26, 2008.

In March of 2009, he completed initial CH-46E training and subsequently assigned to the Purple Foxes of HMM-364 in Camp Pendleton, CA.  In October 2009, he deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, holding billets in the Operations Department. While deployed, he was promoted to Captain and designated an Aircraft Commander.  

In June 2010, he began MV-22B training. Upon completion, he again held billets in the Operations Department as a plank owner of the VMM-561 Pale Horse. In May 2012 he went with the advanced party of Marines from VMM-561 to Okinawa, Japan, to transition HMM-265 to VMM-265.  

With the Dragons of VMM-265 Captain Hole served multiple key billets in the Operations and Maintenance Departments; deploying as VMM-265 (Rein) on the 31st MEU four times.  He participated in multiple bilateral, joint, and multi-national exercises in Australia, Korea, Thailand, the Philippines, and the Mariana Island Archipelago.  He participated in disaster relief efforts In Tacloban, Republic of the Philippines after Typhoon Damayan, and in Kyushu, Japan following the Kumomoto earthquake. He was promoted to the rank of Major in February 2016.

In October of 2016 Majorl Hole checked into VMM-364, MAG-39. With the Purple Foxes he  served as Operations Officer, Aircraft Maintenance Officer, and Executive Officer.  During this tour, he twice deployed with the squadron to SPMAGTF-CR-CC in support of OIR (17.2 and 19.2) and as a Detachment OIC to support a no-fail National Mission in support of a forward deployed Joint Task Force.

In January 2020, Major Hole departed the Purple Foxes to serve as the Deputy Air Officer for the 1st Marine Division. With the "Blue Diamond," he led aviation planning for multiple exercises, integrating amphibious forces to support distributed maritime control and working in concert with MACG-38 to develop tactics for aviation command and control against a peer adversary. In  November 2021 he promoted to his current rank of LtCol and in February 2022, he departed the Blue Diamond for his current duty at VMM-261, MAG-26. 

Lieutenant Colonel Hole has accumulated over 2400 mishap free flight hours, having earned designations of Flight Leader, Air Mission Commander, and Weapons and Tactics Instructor.  His personal decorations include the Air Medal (5 Strike/Flight), Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Humanitarian Service Medal.
