VMM-263 Command Senior Enlisted Leader
Sergeant Major Derek C. Patrick

Sergeant Major Patrick enlisted into the Marine Corps on Aug 3, 2009.  He attended Recruit Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego. After completion of Recruit Training, Private First Class Patrick reported to the School of Infantry to attend Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton, California.  After graduating MCT, Private First Class Patrick reported to Military Police School at Fort Leonardwood, Missouri. At the end of Military Police School, Private First Class Patrick was selected to attend Military Working Dog Handlers course at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.


In August 2010, Lance Corporal Patrick graduated Military Working Dog Handler Course, earning the MOS of 5812. He then reported to Marine Corps Base Hawaii and was assigned as a Military Working Dog Handler for the base Provost Marshal's Office. While serving as a dog handler, he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Corporal. 


In December 2013, Corporal Patrick reported to 1st Law Enforcement Battalion on Camp Pendleton and was assigned to the Personal Security Detachment Platoon.  After attending PSD School in 2014, Sergeant Patrick deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as the Close-In Security Agent for the International Security Assistance Force's Commander, Marine General, General Dunford. Upon return from deployment, Sergeant Patrick served as a Military Working Dog Trainer for the Military Working Dog Platoon with 1st Law Enforcement Battalion.


In January 2016, Sergeant Patrick reported to Drill Instructor School aboard Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California.  In March of 2016, Sergeant Patrick was assigned to Delta company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion where he completed cycles as a Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor. In June of 2018, Staff Sergeant Patrick was selected as the West Coast Drill Instructor of the Year and meritoriously promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant.  In July 2018, Gunnery Sergeant Patrick was assigned as the 1st Recruit Training Battalion Drill Master where he served the remaining time of his tour. 


In March 2019, Gunnery Sergeant Patrick executed orders to the White House Military Office, Presidential Helicopter Squadron, HMX-1, Quantico, Virginia where he served as a Detachment Security Officer, Platoon Sergeant and Operations Chief for Security Company. 
In February 2022, Gunnery Sergeant Patrick was frocked to his current rank of First Sergeant and was assigned to Truck Company, 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, to serve as the Inspector-Instructor First Sergeant.


In March 2025, First Sergeant Patrick reported to 1st Battalion, 8th Marines, 6th Marine Regiment, 2d Marine Division, where he served as Company First Sergeant for Aztec Company. In October of 2025, First Sergeant Patrick deployed to the southern border with Alpha Company, attached to Task Force Darkside, 3rd Battalion, 4th Marines for the JTF-SB 26.1.


In July 2026, Sergeant Major Patrick was promoted to his current rank and executed orders to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 263 to assume his duties as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader.


Personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with 4 gold stars in lieu of fifth award, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with 3 gold stars in lieu of fourth award, and the Presidential Service Badge.
