Sergeant Major Sean R. Blue is a native of Iowa. He enlisted into the United States Marine Corps on 13 March 2006 and completed recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California. Upon completion of recruit training, he reported to Marine Combat Training (MCT), Camp Pendleton, California. Following completion of MCT he attended MOS school at Courthouse Bay, North Carolina for Basic Electrician School (1141). In September 2006, he was meritoriously promoted to Private First Class.
In December 2006, he reported to MWSS-172, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing aboard Camp Foster, Okinawa, Japan. In April 2007, he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal. In March 2008, he was deployed to Al Asad Air Base, Iraq, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In May 2008, he was combat meritoriously promoted to the rank of Corporal.
In December 2008, he received orders to 2d Combat Engineer Battalion, 2d Marine division, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. In May 2009, he was meritoriously promoted to Sergeant. In December 2009, he was deployed to Marjah, Afghanistan with 1st Battalion, 6th Marines in support of Operation Moshtarak.
In January 2011, he received orders to Drill Instructor School MCRD, San Diego, California, Class 2-11. Upon graduation from Drill Instructor School, Sergeant Major Blue was attached to Hotel Company, 2d Recruit Training Battalion, Recruit Training Regiment, where he served as a Drill Instructor, Chief Drill Instructor, and 2d Battalion Drill Master. In January 2013, he was meritoriously promoted to Staff Sergeant.
In June 2014, he received orders to Marine Wing Support Squadron 374, Twentynine Palms, California, where he served as the Engineer Company Senior Enlisted Advisor, Utilities Platoon Staff Noncommissioned Officer In Charge, and Utilities Platoon Operations Chief.
In January 2016, he received orders to Combat Logistics Battalion 7, Twentynine Palms, California, where he served as the Engineer Service Support Company Maintenance Chief.
In April 2016, he was meritoriously promoted to Gunnery Sergeant. Upon being promoted, he received orders to Combat Logistics Company 13, Twentynine Palms, California, where he served as the Company Gunnery Sergeant.
In May 2017, he received orders to Officer Candidates School, Quantico, Virgina, where he served as a Sergeant Instructor, Platoon Sergeant, Company Gunnery Sergeant, and Drill Master.
In May 2020, he was frocked to the rank of First Sergeant and receive orders to 1st Battalion, 3d Marines where he served as the Unit Senior Enlisted Leader for Weapons Company, Bravo Company, and Headquarters and Service Company. Sergeant Major Blue deployed twice to Okinawa, Japan, in support of Unit Deployment Program with Weapons Company and Headquarters and Service Company.
In July 2022, he received orders to 3d Marine Littoral Regiment where he served as the Headquarters and Service Company Unit Senior Enlisted Leader.
In February 2024, he was frocked to his present rank and subsequently executed orders to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 162 to serve as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader.
Sergeant Major Blue has a bachelors degree from American Military University. Sergeant Major Blue's personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with 3 gold star's, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with 1 gold star, and Combat Action Ribbon.
