VMGR-252 Executive Officer
Major Joshua D. Horman

Major Joshua Horman is a native of Missouri.  After graduating from William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri with a degree in Business Administration, Josh completed Officer Candidate School and commissioned into the United States Marine Corps.  During The Basic School, Josh picked up a competitive Naval Flight Officer (NFO) contract and began his journey into Naval Aviation.  After relocating to Pensacola and completing NFO flight training, Josh selected the venerable EA-6B Prowler and moved to Naval Air Station Whidbey Island and joined VAQ-129 to complete the Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS).  

In May 2013, following completion of the FRS, Josh checked into VMAQ-2 Death Jesters and deployed eight days later.  During his 4-year tour with the Death Jesters, Josh served as the Ground Training/Schedules Officer, Aviation Life Support Systems Division Officer, Electronic Warfare Officer, and Logistics Officer.  He deployed three times in support of the Unit Deployed Program – Pacific and OPERATION INHERENT RESOLVE, spending time in MCAS Iwakuni, Japan; Incirlik Air Base, Turkey and Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar.    

In May 2017, Josh received orders to Marine Corps Base Hawaii and served as the Air Officer for 2d Battalion, 3d Marines Island Warriors.  During this tour - with the sundown of the EA-6B - Josh was selected for a transition to Naval Aviator.  In June 2019, Josh began flight school again at Naval Air Station Whiting Field and selected the mighty KC-130J Hercules.  

After completion of the Fleet Replacement Detachment East in December 2020, Josh checked into VMGR-252 and supported Team OTIS in the maintenance department for 3+ years.  He served as the Quality Assurance Officer, Assistant Aircraft Maintenance Officer and Aircraft Maintenance Officer before moving to serve as the Executive Officer.  The highlight of Josh’s time at VMGR-252 was the opportunity to deploy to Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti and support the warfighters of Team OTIS, Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa, Aviation Combat Element Crisis Response – Africa as the detachment Executive Officer.  Maj Horman was selected by the Commandant’s Professional Intermediate- Level Education Board and received a Naval Postgraduate School allocation in December 2023.
