Command Biography

2d LAAD Bn Commanding Officer
Lieutenant Colonel Leonard J. Niedosik

Originally from Charlotte, NC, Lieutenant Colonel (LtCol) Niedosik attended Guilford College where he received a Bachelor of Science in German and Criminal Justice while earning the college's Nereus C. English award, Guilford's highest award for athletic leadership and academic excellence. During the summers of 2004 and 2005, LtCol Niedosik completed Platoons Leader's Course Juniors and Seniors at Officer Candidate School (OCS) commissioning in May 2006.

In April 2007, LtCol Niedosik checked into 2d Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion (2d LAAD) aboard Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point. Shortly after arrival, he attended the LAAD Basic Officer Course in El Paso, TX to receive the primary MOS of 7204. Immediately after MOS school, LtCol Niedosik attended LAAD Enhancement Training Instructor (LETI) course in Yuma, AZ and received the designation of LETI and alternate MOS of 7276. Upon return to 2d LAAD Bn, LtCol Niedosik took charge of 1st Platoon, Alpha Battery.

In March 2008, LtCol Niedosik deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) 08.1 as a platoon commander conducting security and stability operations. Upon return from OIF in October 2008, LtCol Niedosik assumed the billet of Executive Officer of Alpha Battery. In March of 2009, LtCol Niedosik volunteered to serve as an individual augment for Marine Aircraft Group 40 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. He worked in Future Operations and served as the Anti-Terrorism Force Protection Officer for the first eight months of deployment. The final four months of deployment, he served as a military advisor to the 215th Afghan National Army Corps Headquarters.

In May 2010, LtCol Niedosik returned to 2d LAAD Bn and served as Assistant Operations Officer until September 2010 when he attended Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course (WTI) 1-11 held by Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron 1 (MAWTS-1) and received the alternate MOS of 7277. Upon return from WTI in Nov 2010, LtCol Niedosik assumed command of Alpha Battery until May 2012. In June 2012, LtCol Niedosik was transferred to Quantico with orders to OCS where he served as permanent personnel in the billets of Academics Instructor, Platoon Commander, and Company Executive Officer.

In August 2014, LtCol Niedosik transferred from OCS back to 2d LAAD Bn, where he served as the Battalion Operations Officer until June 2016. During his time there he was the 2d MAW CG's nomination for 2015 Command and Control Officer of the year. He lead the battalion's support of WTI 2-15, Red Flag 15-3, LSE 15, Cold Response 16 in Norway, Mountain Exercise 1-16, WTI 2-16, and BaltOps 16.

In June 2016, LtCol Niedosik served as the Marine Air Control Group 28 (MACG-28) Detachment OIC and Aviation Combat Element (ACE) S-4 for the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit which deployed in early 2017. Upon return from deployment in October 2017, LtCol Niedosik resumed duties as Battalion Operations Officer for 2d LAAD Bn through July 2018. Upon completion of his time with 2d LAAD Bn, LtCol Niedosik checked into Command and Staff College in July 2018.

After completion of Command and Staff College in July 2019, LtCol Niedosik checked into Marine Corps Operational Test and Evaluation Activity (MCOTEA). He served as the Marine Air Defense Integrated System (MADIS) and Marine Air Ground Task Force Common Handheld (MCH) Operational Test Project Officer (OTPO). As an OTPO, he directly assisted in the program's cost, schedule, and performance while planning Operational Assessments and Initial Operational Test and Evaluation for MADIS and MCH. LtCol Niedosik achieved Level II DAIWA certification in Program Management (PM) during his time with MCOTEA.

In May 2022, LtCol Niedosik Checked into MACG-28 HQ to serve as Operations Officer.

His personal awards consist of five Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals and a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
