Command Biography

MALS-26 Commanding Officer
Lieutenant Colonel Michael D. Bryant

Lieutenant Colonel Bryant is a native of New Mexico. He received his Bachelor’s in Diplomacy and World Affairs from Occidental College in June 2006.  Candidate Bryant graduated from Officer Candidates School in August 2007 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. After finishing The Basic School in May 2008, he attended Advanced Preflight Indoctrination at NAS Pensacola, FL. He completed Primary Flight School at Vance AFB and in 2009, reported to Advanced Rotary Flight School at NAS Whiting Field, FL. After medical disqualification, First Lieutenant Bryant was redesignated as an Aviation Maintenance Officer and sent to Aviation Maintenance Officer School at NAS Whiting Field, FL in June 2010.

First Lieutenant Bryant’s fleet tours began when he reported to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 36 at MCAS Futenma, Okinawa in October 2010. He spent eight months as the Ground Support Equipment OIC before being sent to Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 262 as the Maintenance Material Control Officer. After two deployments with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) and a humanitarian aid/disaster relief operation with Marine Aircraft Group 36, Captain Bryant reported back to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 36 as the Assistant Aircraft Maintenance Officer in April 2013. From 2014 to 2017, he was assigned to U.S. Marine Forces, Pacific as the Aircraft Maintenance Officer in the Aviation Logistics Division.

Captain Bryant was selected to and attended the Air Command Staff College at Maxwell AFB in Montgomery, AL from 2017-2018. There he promoted to Major and earned a Master’s in Military Operational Art and Science. Immediately following graduation, Major Bryant moved to Philadelphia, PA as the USMC Engines Branch Head for Naval Supply Systems Command Weapons System Support.

In May 2021, Major Bryant reported to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 26 and served as the Executive Officer. In September 2022, he reported to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 162 and assumed the duties of the Aviation Combat Element Aircraft Maintenance Officer. He deployed with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) from July 2023 to March 2024 operating in both Central Command and Europe Command where he promoted to his present rank of Lieutenant Colonel in August 2023.

Lieutenant Colonel Bryant returned to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 26 in June 2024 and would go on to be the Commanding Officer beginning July 2024.

Lieutenant Colonel Bryant’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal Gold Star in lieu of second award, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
