Command Biography

MWSS-271 Commanding Officer
Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey C. Castiglione

A native of West Hartford, CT, Lieutenant Colonel Jeff Castiglione commissioned in the Marine Corps in June 2007.  

Lieutenant Colonel Castiglione completed the Basic School in April 2008 and the Basic Engineer Officer's Course in August 2008.  From September 2008 until July 2010, he was assigned to Engineer Company, Marine Wing Support Squadron 374, where he served as the Construction Platoon Commander, Company Executive Officer, and Company Commander.  

From March 2009 until January 2010, Lieutenant Colonel Castiglione served as a combat advisor.  He completed the Advisor Training Group course in Camp Pendleton, CA and served as Team Leader, Military Movement Team 5 (MMT 5), which was responsible for advising Iraqi police leadership of the Fallujah District of Al Anbar Province, Iraq.  After a transfer of authority of the MMT 5 mission to the U.S. Army in October 2009, he joined Border Training Team 4210 in Ar Ar, Iraq and served as Effects Officer/Advisor.

From July 2010 to June 2012, Lieutenant Colonel Castiglione was assigned to the Tactical Training and Exercise Control Group where he served as an Engineer Instructor/Advisor (“Coyote 13”).  During this time, he was selected for the Foreign Area Officer (FAO) Program as a Europe FAO.  

Lieutenant Colonel Castiglione conducted FAO training/certification from June 2012 to January 2016.  During this time he earned a Master's Degree from the Naval Postgraduate School, completed the Turkish Language course at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, CA, and conducted In-Region-Training, where he was assigned to the U.S. Embassy in Ankara, Turkey and traveled throughout Europe, Central Asia, and the Middle East.

After FAO training, Lieutenant Colonel Castiglione was assigned to 2d Combat Engineer Battalion in January 2016 where he served as Company Commander, Engineer Support Company.  In November 2016, he was assigned to Task Force Southwest where he served as Current Operations Officer and Battle Captain.  He served with Task Force Southwest in Helmand Province, Afghanistan from April 2017 until January 2018.  After returning to Camp Lejeune, he served as the G-4 Engineer Officer, 2d Marine Division until July 2018.  

From July 2018 until July 2020, Lieutenant Colonel Castiglione served as the EUCOM Desk Officer at Plans, Policies & Operations, Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps.  From July 2020 until March 2022, he served as the Executive Officer of Combat Logistics Battalion 24, deploying with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit from February to September 2021.  He participated in the planning and conduct of Noncombatant Evacuation Operations in Kabul, Afghanistan during this deployment.  

From March 2022 until June 2022, he served as Current Operations Officer, Task Force 61/2 in Naples, Italy.  From June 2022 until June 2024, he served as the G-4 Engineer Officer, II Marine Expeditionary Force.  During this assignment, from February to March 2023, he deployed to southeast Turkey to support Foreign Humanitarian Assistance operations as a Turkish speaking FAO and engineer planner.

He assumed command of Marine Wing Support Squadron 271 in June 2024.

Lieutenant Colonel Castiglione is a graduate of the Naval War College Command and Staff and the USMC Expeditionary Warfare School Distance Education Programs.  He holds a Master's Degree in Regional Security Studies (Europe/Eurasia) from the Naval Postgraduate School, a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from Williams College, and is a Massachusetts Institute of Technology Seminar XXI Fellow.

2nd Marine Aircraft Wing
