Colonel Kurt M. Gall

Colonel Kurt M. Gall is from Stockton, California.  He enlisted in the Marine Corps as a Rifleman and departed for Marine Corps Recruit Training, San Diego, on January 23, 1990. Upon completion of Marine Combat Training, School of Infantry and Amphibious Reconnaissance Course, he was assigned to Bravo Company, 1st Reconnaissance Battalion.  From 1990-1992, he deployed to the Persian Gulf in support of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, and Operation Sea Angel, Bangladesh.

From 1991-1992, Lance Corporal Gall attended U.S. Navy Drive School and U.S. Army Airborne School and deployed with Joint Task Force 6 in support of drug interdiction operations in the Southwestern US, responded as the Marine Corps' quick reaction force during the Los Angeles riots.  In October 1992, Corporal Gall deployed with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), Special Operations Capable, in support of Operation Restore Hope, Somalia.  In 1995, Sergeant Gall made a lateral move to become an Air Traffic Control Specialist. In 1998, Staff Sergeant Gall was accepted for the Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education Program and attended the University of Arizona, earning his commission in July 2000.

Upon graduation of The Basic School, he was meritoriously augmented, and immediately reported to the Communications Information Systems Officer Course (CISOC).  Upon completion of CISOC, Second Lieutenant Gall was assigned to 12th Marine Regiment, where he served as Communications Platoon Commander, HQ Battery Executive Officer, and Assistant Regimental Operations Officer.  In May 2003, Lieutenant Gall joined the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) as the Command Element Communications Officer S-6A, where he deployed throughout the Pacific, and Iraq.  In 2007, Captain Gall graduated from Naval Postgraduate School with a Master of Science Degree in Information Technology Management and served as the Technology Force Application Division Branch Head and Marine Corps Total Force Systems Release Manager for Technology Services Organization in Kansas City, Missouri.

In June 2011, Major Gall was assigned to Marine Forces Pacific, Hawaii, with focus as the Northeast Asia Operations Planner in the G6 and represented INDOPACOM to enhance US/Asia combined force interoperability.  From October 2013 through July 2014, Major Gall served as the Communications Director for Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Camp Smith, and Marine Air Ground Task Force (MAGTF) Information Technology Support Center.  From July 2014 through June 2015, Major Gall attended Command and Staff College, where he earned a second master's degree in military studies.  From July 2015 through July 2017, he served as the Communications Company Commander at 1st Marine Division.  After promoting to Lieutenant Colonel, he joined the Joint Staff J-5, Transregional Threat Coordination Cell with a specific focus on global integration and combatting violent extremist organizations.  From 2019 to 2022, he commanded Marine Wing Communications Squadron 38 and attended the National War College. He was assigned to MMOA as the Ground Colonel's monitor.

His personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, gold star in lieu of second award, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, two gold stars in lieu of third award, and Combat Action Ribbon, gold star in lieu of second award.
