Major Walters is a native of Kalispell, Montana. He enlisted into the United States Marine Corps in March of 2006. After graduating Basic Training from Marine Corps Recruit Depot - San Diego, and Marine Combat Training, School of Infantry - West, he was assigned to Aviation Training Squadron 1 in Pensacola, Florida. Upon completion of Aviation Ordnance School, he received the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) scholarship and attended Washington State University. There he earned a B.A. in Criminal Justice and Political Science and commissioned in 2011. After graduating from the The Basic School and Air Support Control Officer course he was assigned to Marine Air Support Squadron (MASS) 2 in Okinawa, Japan.
Major Walters was assigned as a Platoon Commander, Communications and Electronics Company where he supported exercises and operations in the Philippines, Thailand, Guam, and the Republic of Korea. While serving as the Company Executive Officer, Communications and Electronics Company, Major Walters was selected as the Marine Liaison Officer to the 607 Air Support Operations Group on Osan Air Force Base, Republic of Korea. He performed duties as the Liaison from September 2014 to June 2015 where he coordinated operational and logistical support for all 1 MAW units conducting training or exercises on the Korean Peninsula. Upon completion of this duty and his return to MASS-2, he executed orders to MASS 1 in Cherry Point, North Carolina in July 2015.
Upon checking in to MASS-1, Major Walters took part in a team to test and evaluate the Common Aviation Command and Control System while supporting WTI 1-15 and 2-15. Upon completion of his time with the testing and evaluation team, he served as a Future and Assistant Operations Officer. In December 2016, he was assigned to Task Force Southwest - Rotation 1, as an Aviation Command and Control Advisor to the 215 Corps, Afghan National Army in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. He was assigned with Task Force Southwest 17.2 in support of Operations FREEDOM SENTINEL and RESOLUTE SUPPORT and deployed to Afghanistan from 2017-2018.
Upon completion of his deployment and assignment to Task Force Southwest 17.2, he returned to MASS-1 in March of 2018. Major Walters then executed orders in June 2018 to Frankfurt, Germany as an Interagency Officer for Marine Corps Embassy Security Group, Region 1 Eastern Europe and Eurasia. As a member of Region 1, he served as the Region's Logistics and Executive Officer from 2018-2021. During his time performing these duties, he supported 23 Marine Security Guard detachments across 18 countries in East Europe, Eurasia, and Central Asia.
Upon completion of his tour in Germany, Major Walters executed orders to DC, Plans, Policies, and Operations in Washington D.C. in July 2021. He spent the first year of this assignment as a Watch Officer with the Marine Corps Operations Center. During this time, he assisted in coordinating events like the Afghan NEO, Russian invasion of Ukraine, and Haiti unrest with HQMC, the Joint Staff, and sister Services. He then fulfilled roles as a Current Operations Officer and Global Force Management officer with Operations Division until executing orders to his current billet as the 2d Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion in Cherry Point, North Carolina in July 2024.
