Sergeant Major Ashby assumed his current post as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader for Marine Aircraft Group 26 on November 26, 2024. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on June 26, 2000, from Kansas City, Missouri, attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, completed Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton, California, and completed military occupational training at Marine Corps Communication Electronic School in Twentynine Palms, California, where he earned the Military Occupational Specialty 5942, Aviation Radar Repairer. In October 2005, he earned the Military Occupational Specialty 5948, Aviation Radar Technician.

Sergeant Major Ashby's supporting establishment assignments include: Chief Instructor, Curriculum Developer and received recognition as basic instructor of the year for 2006, Marine Corps Communication Electronic School; Inspector-Instructor, Maintenance Chief, S-6 SNCOIC and Squadron Gunnery Sergeant, Marine Air Control Squadron 23; AN/TPS-63B Chief Instructor and Unit Senior Enlisted Leader, Marine Corps Communication Electronic School; Inspector-Instructor, Unit Senior Enlisted Leader, Bridge Company C, 6th Engineer Support Battalion.
Sergeant Major Ashby's deployments include: Operation Enduring Freedom, Uzbekistan; Operation Enduring Freedom 11.2, Afghanistan; Operation Enduring Freedom 13.2, Afghanistan; Unit Deployment Program, Okinawa; Marine Rotational Force-Darwin 24.3, Australia.
Sergeant Major Ashby is PME complete and attended the United States Marine Corps Senior Enlisted Professional Military Education Course 1-17 and 1st Battalion (Airborne), 507th Infantry Regiment Airborne Course. His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (two gold stars in lieu of third award), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two gold stars in lieu of third award) and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (one silver star in lieu of sixth award). He graduated from American Military University with an associate's (general studies) and bachelor's (management) degree.
