Sergeant Major Garcia is a native of Hereford, Texas. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in May 2005. Upon completing Recruit Training with Company B, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California, he attended the School of Infantry West aboard Camp Pendleton, California, for Marine Corps Combat Training. In August 2005, Sergeant Major Garcia attended the Military Police (MP) School at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, where he earned the Primary MOS of 5811 Military Policeman.
In December 2005, Sergeant Major Garcia received orders to Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Iwakuni, Japan, where he served as a Military Policeman. In February 2006, he was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal. He was selected to attend the MP Special Reaction Team (SRT) course at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Upon completing the course in August of 2006, he served as a member of SRT. In September 2006, he was selected to attend the Military Working Dog (MWD) handler course at the Marine Corps MP Detachment, Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas, and while attending he was promoted to Corporal. Upon completing the course in December 2006, he served as both an SRT member and a MWD handler.
Sergeant Major Garcia deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in November 2007, where he served as an explosives MWD handler. Sergeant Major Garcia returned from deployment in July of 2008 and returned to MCAS Iwakuni for duty as an MP Patrol Supervisor and MWD Kennel Master. Upon promotion to the rank of Sergeant in October 2009, Sergeant Major Garcia was appointed as the 4th Platoon Watch Commander.
In March 2010, Sergeant Major Garcia received orders to Marine Corps Detachment Lackland, AFB, San Antonio, TX. He was then assigned to the Air Force’s 341st Training Squadron Dog Training School, where he served as a MWD trainer. In April 2011, Sergeant Major Garcia was selected to serve as Instructor for the MWD Handler Course.
Sergeant Major Garcia received orders to Recruiting School, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, CA in October of 2012. Upon successful completion of the course, Sergeant Major Garcia was assigned as a Canvassing Recruiter with Recruiting Sub-Station Pearl City, Recruiting Station Orange, Hawaii. Sergeant Major Garcia was promoted meritoriously to the rank of Staff Sergeant on 2 July 2014.
In February 2016, Sergeant Major Garcia received orders to MCAS Iwakuni, Japan, where he served at the Provost Marshal’s Office as a Watch Commander, Kennel Master, and Assistant Operations Chief. In July 2018, Sergeant Major Garcia was selected to serve as the H&HS Squadron Gunnery Sergeant for the remainder of his tour. He was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant in August of 2018.
In January 2019, Sergeant Major Garcia received orders to 1st Law Enforcement Battalion, CA, where he served as the Chief Kennel Master. In September 2020, Sergeant Major Garcia was transferred to MCAS Miramar, CA, where he served as the Chief Kennel Master.
In May 2022, Sergeant Major Garcia reported to Company A, 4th Reconnaissance Battalion, to serve as the Unit Senior Enlisted Leader (SEL) and Inspector & Instructor First Sergeant. Sergeant Major Garcia reported for duty as the Unit SEL for Marine Wing Support Squadron 271, Marine Air Control Group-28, 2d Marine Air Wing (MAW), MCAS Cherry Point in July 2025. He was selected to Sergeant Major in November 2025 and was transferred to his current assignment as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader of Marine Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Training Squadron-2, 2d MAW.
Sergeant Major Garcia’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Air and Space Commendation Medal, Navy & Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two Gold Stars in lieu of third award, the Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal and various service and campaign medals.
