Sergeant Major Dustin S. Sammons

SgtMaj Sammons is a native of Richmond, Virginia. He attended recruit training, Parris Island, in January 2004. Upon graduation of Basic Landing Support Specialists’ Course, SgtMaj Sammons was assigned to 3d Transportation Support Battalion, Camp Foster, Okinawa, Japan where he served as a Landing Support Specialist.

From 2004 to 2006, SgtMaj Sammons deployed in support of multiple humanitarian operations including both Joint Task Force 535 and Joint Task Force 536. Also during this time, SgtMaj Sammons deployed in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, Camp Al-Taqaddum serving as part of Security Company, 2d Military Police Battalion where he performed duties as a driver, machine gunner, and team leader.

From 2006 to 2008, upon completion of his tour in Okinawa, SgtMaj Sammons received orders to Landing Support Company, Combat Logistics Regiment 27. SgtMaj Sammons was deployed again in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, Camp Fallujah, Combat Logistics Battalion-8 as the Landing Support Platoon Sergeant.

From 2008 to 2010, SgtMaj Sammons executed orders to Marine Corps Systems Command, Quantico, Virginia to serve as subject matter expert with regards to Helicopter Sling Load Operations. During this time, SgtMaj Sammons deployed in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM Camp Leatherneck serving as Marine Corps Systems Command Liaison to Marine Expeditionary Brigade – Afghanistan (MEB-A).

From 2010 to 2013, SgtMaj Sammons executed orders to the Marine Corps Combat Service Support School serving as Instructor and Course Manager for Basic and Intermediate Landing Support Specialists’ Course, where he was awarded the Instructor of the Year for calendar year 2012.

From 2013 to 2016 SgtMaj Sammons executed orders to 2d Marine Regiment as the Regimental Logistics Chief. During this time, he deployed in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM where he served as the C-4 Tactical Logistics Operations Cell Chief.. In addition, he deployed in support of Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force-Crisis Response Africa as the MAGTF Logistics Chief and Command Element 1stSgt.

From 2016 to 2018, SgtMaj Sammons reported to 3d Marine Raider Support Battalion where he served as the Logistics Support Team Chief for Marine Special Operations Company N and deployed in support of Special Operations Command Africa – Sahel and Maghreb.

As a First Sergeant, SgtMaj Sammons served as Company 1stSgt, Easy Company 2d Battalion, 2d Marines. He was deployed in support of Trident Juncture, Norway and Unit Deployment Program 21.1, Okinawa, Japan. Additionally, he served as Company 1stSgt for Operations and Headquarters Companies 3d Intelligence Battalion, Okinawa, Japan and was selected for his current rank.

As a Sergeant Major he served as Command Senior Enlisted Leader for Combat Logistics Battalion 26, Combat Logistics Battalion 6 where he deployed in support of Marine Rotational Force – Europe 24.1 and Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 542 where he deployed in support of Operation PROSPERITY GUARDIAN.

Sergeant Major Sammons currently serves as Command Senior Enlisted Leader, Marine Air Control Group-28.

SgtMaj Sammons holds a Graduate Certificate in Management and Leadership from Liberty University, a Bachelor’s Degree in Management Studies from the University of Maryland and his personal awards include: Meritorious Service Medal (2nd award), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3rd Award), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3rd Award) and the Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
