Command Biography

MALS-26 Executive Officer
Major Brendan A. Lyon

Major Lyon was raised in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. He attended the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota while crosstowning as part of the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. He completed Officer Candidates School in 2010 and graduated and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in May 2011. Following this, he reported to The Basic School in Quantico, VA in July 2011, graduating in January 2012. Second Lieutenant Lyon reported to Pensacola, FL for flight training in February of 2012; in July 2013 he was redesignated and reported to CNATT Detachment Whiting field in Milton, FL for training.

First Lieutenant Lyon was designated as an Aviation Maintenance Officer in September 2013 and reported to MALS-29 at MCAS New River, NC as the Ground Support Equipment Officer. He was assigned to HMLA-269 in July 2014, where he served as the Maintenance Material Control Officer (MMCO) and Material Control Officer (MCO). There, he deployed to Okinawa, Japan in April 2015 where he supported humanitarian aid in Nepal during squadron handoff with HMLA-469 as well as training exercises in the Philippines, mainland Japan, and South Korea.

In May 2016, Captain Lyon executed orders to VMU-1 at MCAS Yuma, AZ There, he served as Aircraft Maintenance Officer (AMO), Assistant AMO, MMCO, and MCO. While serving with the RQ-7Bv2 and RQ-21A aircraft, he supported cross-agency counter-trafficking and counter-narcotics operations along the US Southern border and graduated from the MAWTS-1 Advanced Aircraft Maintenance Officer Course while completing Expeditionary Warfare School.

In June of 2019, Captain Lyon reported to the Marine Corps Office of Legislative Affairs (OLA) in Washington, DC after selection to serve as a Congressional Fellow. He served within the US House of Representatives in 2020 as personal staff for Representative Sam Graves (MO-06), where he was responsible for all Defense-related matters and assisted in the creation and passage of the 2021 National Defense Authorization Act. After returning to OLA in the Pentagon in January 2021, he served as Congressional Affairs Officer for the Deputy Commandant for Aviation, as the Marine Corps Legislative Liaison with Congressional Armed Services Readiness Subcommittees, and as Congressional Staff for the Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps.

While serving in OLA, Major Lyon was selected to attend foreign Professional Military Education at the Escola de Guerra Naval (EGN) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He reported to DLI-Washington in 2023 for Brazilian Portuguese language training in April 2023 and moved to Brazil in October 2023. He graduated from the EGN JPME level I-equivalent Curso de Estado Maior para Oficiais Superiores in December of 2024. Following graduation, Major Lyon executed orders to MALS-26 at MCAS New River, NC, where he currently serves as Executive Officer.

Major Lyon holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of St. Thomas, a Master of Public Policy from George Mason University, a Master of Naval Science from the Escola de Guerra Naval, and a Master's Certificate in Business Management from the Pontifícia Universidade Católica - Rio.
