Command Biography

VMM-365 Command Senior Enlisted Leader
Sergeant Major Zane E. Moorman

Sergeant Major Moorman enlisted in the Marine Corps in January 2006. He attended recruit training at MCRD Parris Island and was promoted meritoriously to Private First Class. Following recruit training and Marine Combat Training, he reported to Field Radio Operator School at 29 Palms, California, and graduated with the 0621 MOS.

In August 2006, he reported to 12th Marine HQ Battery Okinawa, Japan, where he served as a Radio Operator. In March 2008, Corporal Moorman deployed with Embedded Training Team 4-3, Regional Corps Advisory Command-Central, 201st Corps, Afghan National Army, in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM and was promoted to Sergeant in November 2008.

In February 2009, Sergeant Moorman reported to 1st Battalion 6th Marines, 2d Marine Division, where he served as the Radio Supervisor and the Platoon Sergeant for the Communications Platoon. In December 2009, he deployed with 1st Battalion, 6th Marines in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM and was promoted meritoriously to the rank of Staff Sergeant.

In January 2011, Staff Sergeant Moorman reported to Drill Instructor School at MCRD Parris Island; he graduated first in his class and received the leadership award. Upon graduation, he was assigned to Delta Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion where he served as a Drill Instructor.

In September 2012, Staff Sergeant Moorman reported to Combat Logistics Battalion 6 and assumed duties as the Battalion Radio Chief. In July 2013, he deployed with Combat Logistics Battalion 6 in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. In January 2014, he was assigned to serve as the Company Gunnery Sergeant for Headquarters and Service Company.

In October 2015, Staff Sergeant Moorman reported to Drill Instructor School at MCRD Parris Island; he graduated first in his class and received the leadership award. Upon graduation, he was assigned to Echo Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, where he served as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, Chief Drill Instructor, and Regimental Drill Master. During this tour, he was meritoriously promoted to Gunnery Sergeant.

In July 2018, Gunnery Sergeant Moorman reported to 9th Communication Battalion, where he served as the Transmissions Chief, Company Gunnery Sergeant, and Unit Senior Enlisted Leader for Alpha Company. Gunnery Sergeant Moorman was frocked to the rank of First Sergeant in February 2020.

In February 2020, First Sergeant Moorman reported to 1st Battalion 4th Marines, 1st Marine Division, where he served as the Unit Senior Enlisted Leader for Charlie Company. In September 2020, he deployed with Battalion Landing Team 1/4, 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, WestPac 21.1, in support of Operation OCTAVE QUARTZ.

In July 2021, First Sergeant Moorman reported to 1st Marine Raider Battalion, Marine Raider Regiment, where he served as the Unit Senior Enlisted Leader for Marine Special Operations Company D and deployed in support of Operation OCTAVE QUARTZ. First Sergeant Moorman was frocked to the rank of Sergeant Major in February 2023.

In March 2023, Sergeant Major Moorman reported to II Marine Expeditionary Force Support Battalion, where he served as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader.

In March 2025, Sergeant Major Moorman reported to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 365, where he currently serves as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader.

Sergeant Major Moorman's personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with two gold stars, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with three gold stars, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star and the Combat Distinguishing Device and the Combat Action Ribbon.
