Sergeant Major Brashear is a native of Melbourne, Florida. He attended Recruit Training in January 2006 in Parris Island, South Carolina. In May 2006, Private First Class (PFC) Brashear attended Pioneer UAS flight school and attained the 7314 MOS in March of 2007. As a UAS student, PFC Brashear was promoted to Lance Corporal (LCpl) in January 2007.
LCpl Brashear reported to Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Squadron 1 (VMU-1) in April 2007 and deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. During the deployement, LCpl Brashear was promoted to the rank of Corporal (Cpl) in October 2007. In June of 2008, he was selected to work with the Marine Corps Warfighting Lab to perform operational testing of payloads on the Aerosonde Unmanned Aerial System. On September 1, 2008, Cpl Brashear was promoted to the rank of Sergeant (Sgt). Sgt Brashear deployed as part of the Aviation Combat Element with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) in October 2008. While on board, Sgt Brashear attended and completed the Marine Corps Martial Arts Instructor Course. After his deployment with the 13th MEU, Sgt Brashear returned to VMU-1 and supported several Combined Arms Exercises and Weapon Tactics Instructor Courses.
In 2011, Sgt Brashear attended the Basic Recruiters Course and earned the 8411 MOS in May of 2011. Sgt Brashear reported to Recruiting Station Pittsburgh and in November of 2011 he was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant (SSgt). After eight months as a recruiter, SSgt Brashear was chosen to be the Station Commander at Recruiting Sub-Station (RSS) Greensburg. In August of 2013, SSgt Brashear completed his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from National University. April 2014, SSgt Brashear was awarded the Marine Corps Achievement Medal for exceptional duty as RSS Greensburg SNCOIC.
In May 2014, SSgt Brashear received orders to VMU-2 and became the Squadron Training Chief. On January 1, 2015 SSgt Brashear was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant (GySgt). In August of 2015, he completed RQ-21 Black Jack UAS training earning the 8021 MOS designator. In January 2016, he deployed as the VMU-2 Detachment Bravo's Senior Enlisted Advisor with Second Marine Raider Battalion to support combat operations for Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force-Iraq. During his deployment, GySgt Brashear became the first ever enlisted UAS pilot to be designated as a Basic Aircraft Commander. In February 2016, he led a 10 Marine Security Force for the Special Operations Task Force-North Command Element to provide force protection for the initial push into West Mosul.
In September 2017, GySgt Brashear was selected to attend the Basic Faculty Advisors Course in Quantico, VA. He served as a faculty advisor earning the 8014 MOS and was attached to the SNCO Academy at Camp Lejeune, NC. GySgt Brashear taught the GySgt and Sgt course material. While at the SNCO Academy, he was chosen to attend the Force Fitness Instructor Course earning the additional MOS of 0919. During his time as an instructor, GySgt Brashear enrolled in the Juris Masters Degree program at Liberty University School of Law. GySgt Brashear successfully completed his tour as a Senior Faculty Advisor at the academy and subsequently received orders to PMA-263 at Patuxent River, MD.
Attached to the Marine Aviation Detachment, PMA-263, GySgt Brashear served as the Small Unmanned Aircraft System (SUAS) Training lead for the USMC and was the Command Financial Specialist and Equal Opportunity Representative for the Marine Aviation Detachment. GySgt Brashear completed his Juris Master's Degree with Honors in July 2021. In January 2022, he was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant, lateral moving into the 8999 MOS. He and his family received orders to Chemical Biological Incident Response Force where he served as the Company B and H First Sergeant until August 2023.
First Sergeant Brashear received orders to 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment and served as the Company B and H Company First Sergeant participating in two mountain warfare training exercises, one service level training exercise, and multiple battalion and company field exercises. In February 2025, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant Major and received orders to his current assignment as the Sergeant Major for Marine Air Control Squadron 2.
Sergeant Major Brashear's personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with three gold stars in lieu of fourth award and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
