Adam Young was commissioned a Second Lieutenant from the United States Naval Academy in May of 2007 after graduating with a Bachelor of Science in History. He completed the Basic School (TBS) with Company E-08.
Upon graduation from TBS, he reported for flight school training in Pensacola, FL, Corpus Christi, TX, and earned his wings in May 2010 in Kingsville, TX. After flight training, First Lieutenant Young joined Strike Fighter Squadron 106 in Ocean, VA for initial F/A-18 training.
In September of 2011, Captain Young was assigned to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 122 (VMFA-122) where his billets included Scheduling Officer, Powerline Officer in Charge, and Flight Officer. During this tour, Captain Young deployed to the Western Pacific in support of the Unit Deployment Program (UDP) twice, in 2013 and again in 2014.
From 2015 through 2017, Captain Young served with Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 101 (VMFAT-101) as a Fleet Replenishment Squadron Instructor Pilot. His billets during the tour included Scheduling Officer and Air-to-Air Phase Head. As a Sharpshooter, Captain Young attended Aviation Safety Officer Course in Pensacola, FL in 2015 and the Marine Division Tactics Course in 2016. He was promoted to Major in August 2017.
In the January of 2018, Major Young was assigned to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 115 (VMFA-115). He graduated the Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course in 2018 before deploying in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE. In March 2020, he deployed for a third time in support of UDP. Major Young served as the Operations Officer, Aircraft Maintenance Officer and Executive Officer during the tour.
Major Young reported to Headquarters, Marine Corps, Aviation in August 2021. He served a year stewarding F-35 and Air-to-Air missile requirements before spending fifteen months as the Deputy Commandant for Aviation’s aide-de-camp. He was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in May 2023. His final billet at the Pentagon managed the F/A-18 Hornet Lifecycle and Air-to-Air missile procurement.
Lieutenant Colonel Young’s awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal (Strike/Flight, fourth award), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (second award), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement (third award, one with “C”), and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (fourth award).
