Command Biography

VMA-223 Executive Officer
Major Eric A. Scheibe

Major Eric A. Scheibe is a native of Marietta, Georgia and graduated from the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in Professional Aeronautics. After commissioning as a Second Lieutenant, he attended the Basic School and progressed through flight training until being designated a Naval Aviator in February of 2011. Upon winging, he reported to Marine Attack Training Squadron 203 for his initial training in the AV-8B Harrier.

In June of 2012, 1stLt Scheibe reported to Marine Attack Squadron (VMA) 231 for his first fleet tour. While assigned to the Ace of Spades, Captain Scheibe served as the Aviation Safety Officer, Logistics Officer, and Operations Daily and Weekly Schedule Writer. He earned his Section Leader designation, completed the Weapons Training Officer certification, designated Functional Check Flight pilot, and Basic Landings Signal Officer. During this tour, Captain Scheibe deployed in 2012 to support Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) at Camp Bastion, Afghanistan and again in 2014 with the AV-8B Detachment to VMM-365 (REIN) in support of the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) contingency operations.

In July of 2015, Captain Scheibe received orders to 24th MEU Command Element to serve as the Assistant Air Officer. While there, Captain Scheibe earned the 7502 MOS at the Tactical Air Control Party course EWTGPAC.

In August of 2016, Captain Scheibe reported to VMA 223 for duty. While at the Great American Bulldogs, Captain Scheibe was prompted to Major, served as the Aviation Safety Officer, Future Operations Officer, and Operations Officer. During this tour Major Scheibe earned Division Lead designation, Forward Air Controller-Airborne qualification, and Advanced Landing Signals Officer. He deployed in 2016 with AV-8B Detachment to VMM-365 (REIN) in support of the 24th MEU contingency operations and in 2018 to Isa, Bahrain in support of Operation Inherent Resolve.

In June of 2019, Major Scheibe reported to Quantico, VA for Marine Corps Command and Staff College. After completing Command and Staff, Major Scheibe returned to VMA-223 to serve as the Aviation Maintenance officer. He achieved the Night Systems Instructor certification during this time.

In May of 2021, Major Scheibe reported to Marine Attack Training Squadron 203 for duty as an AV-8B instructor pilot. He served as the Administrative Officer in Charge and lead planner for transition of the squadron from FRS to FRD. Major Scheibe assumed the billet of FRD Executive officer in October of 2021.

In November of 2022, Major Scheibe reported to VMA-231 as the Detachment Officer In Charge for the AV-8B Detachment to VMM-162 (REIN) in support of the 26th MEU contingency operations. He achieved the Training LSO qualification and in July of 2023, deployed with the 26th MEU to the USCENTCOM AOR. Upon return, Major Scheibe transferred to VMA-223 in September 2024 to assume the billet of Executive officer.

Major Scheibe has accumulated over 1900 hours in the AV-8B Harrier.  His decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, (8) Air Medal Strike/Flight Awards, (2) Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, (2) Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, and various unit and campaign decorations.
