Major Gibbs is a native to Peachtree City, Georgia and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps upon graduation from the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps of Auburn University in May 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology. He reported to The Basic School in Quantico, VA in July 2010 where he completed the Basic Officer Course. Upon completion of the Basic Officer Course, Major Gibbs reported to the Center for Advanced Operational Cultural Learning for Russian Language training before reporting to NAS Pensacola, FL for flight training. Major Gibbs was designated a Naval Aviator in June of 2013 and reported to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Training Squadron 303 (HMLAT-303) in July 2013 for follow on training as an AH-1Z helicopter pilot.
Major Gibbs was assigned to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 267 (HMLA-267) in January 2014 where he served as a schedule writer. In August 2015, he and a detachment from HMLA-267 attached to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 166 for workups with the 13TH Marine Expeditionary Unit (13TH MEU) where he served as a Flight Officer and subsequently deployment with the 13TH MEU from February to September 2016. He then continued to serve as a Flight Officer from September to November 2016 upon return from deployment and reassignment to HMLA-267.
From November 2016 to March 2018 Major Gibbs was assigned to HMLA-469 where he served as the Assistant Officer in Charge of the Logistics and Supply (S-4) office and subsequently as the unit’s Aviation Safety Officer (ASO) in the Department of Safety and Standardization. In March 2018 he was assigned to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Training Squadron 303 as an Instructor Pilot to train the next generation of H-1 pilots. Here, he served as the Adjutant, Standardization Officer, and Curriculum Manager. In November 2020, Major Gibbs reported to The Commandant of the Marine Corps Safety Division in Arlington, VA to serve in the Aviation Branch as an ASO for Headquarters Marine Corps.
He was assigned to Marine Aircraft Group 29 in January 2024 where he served as the Future Operations Officer until July 2024 when he was assigned to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 269. From July 2024 through April 2025, he served as the Director of Safety and Standardization, Logistics and Supply Officer in Charge and Communications Officer in Charge before assuming his current duty assignment as Executive Officer.
Major Gibbs’ personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Gold Star.
