Command Biography

VMFA-533 Command Senior Enlisted Leader
Sergeant Major Daniel R. Oglesby

SgtMaj Oglesby enlisted in September of 2004, completing Marine Corps Recruit Training at Parris Island, SC on December of 2004.  He was selected as the honor graduate and meritoriously promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal.  Upon completion of Recruit Training, he reported to the School of Infantry-East, Company A, as a student to become an 0311.  
 
Upon graduation, he reported to 1st Battalion, 2d Marines, Company C at Camp Lejeune, NC.  The unit was assigned to composite as the 22nd MEU (SOC) and his platoon was selected to be the Maritime Special Purpose Force (MSPF) with Force and Battalion Recon for the remainder of the work up.  He was assigned as a Team Leader shortly before deploying in 2005 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  Upon returning from the deployment he was assigned to Squad Leader for the following Deployment in 2006 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  While on deployment he was promoted to the rank of Corporal.
 
Upon returning from deployment he reported to Marine Corps Combat Instructors School at the School of Infantry, East and was selected for the SgtMaj John Malnar leadership award and promoted to the rank of Sergeant.  Upon graduation he was assigned as a Combat Instructor, Marine Combat Training Battalion, Company F.  During this tour he served as the Tactics Master Instructor at the Instructor Group and returned back to Company F to finish out the Special Duty Assignment.
 
Following the Combat Instructor tour he was assigned as a Platoon Sergeant with 1st Battalion, 2d Marines, Company C,  deploying with the 24th MEU in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  Upon completion of the deployment he was selected on the Marine Forces Command non-special duty assignment non-combat, meritorious promotion to the rank of Staff Sergeant. 
                    
Upon returning from the 24th MEU he reported to 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines, Company G assigned as a Platoon Sergeant deploying on the Unit Deployment Program-Korean Military Exchange Program, Operation Saang Young in 2015.  The following deployment he took part in the SPMAGTF aboard the USS Gunston Hall for LF CARAT in 2016.  While on deployment he was HSST'd to return as a Combat Instructor.
 
In September, 2016, he executed orders to School of Infantry-East where he was assigned as the Weapons Platoon Sergeant, Infantry Training Battalion, Company B.  While there he was reassigned to the Advanced Infantry Training Company in the Advanced Infantry Training Battalion to take over as the SNCOIC of Advanced Infantry Marine Course and promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant.  In 2018 he took over as the Chief Instructor of Infantry Small Unit Leaders Course. 
 
In September, 2019, he executed orders to Task Force 51, 5th Marine Expeditionary Brigade and assigned as the Future Operations Chief in the Operations Directorate.  While there he was appointed as the Camp Commandant at Camp Titin, Jordan to receive BLT 2/8, 24th MEU.  
 
In October, 2020, he executed orders to 1st Battalion, 8th Marines to serve as the Company Gunnery Sergeant for Company A. In March 2021, the battalion deployed on the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit as the Battalion Landing Team 1/8. in August 2021, the MEU deployed to Hamid Karzai International Airport, Afghanistan, to conduct a Non-Combatant Evacuation Operation in support of Operation Freedom's Sentinel. 
 
In January of 2022, he was selected to the rank of First Sergeant and executed orders to Combat Logistic Regiment 27, to serve as the Company First Sergeant at Landing Support Battalion through the transition of Distribution Support Battalion, then Transportation Battalion while under Service Company.  During this tour 1stSgt Oglesby was hand selected by the 2d MEF Commanding General to serve as the Senior Enlisted Leader in support of the USS "Hershel Woody Williams" proof of concept deployment across the MFEA and AFRICOM AOR.  Upon return he received order to Combat Logistics Battalion 26 where he served as the Senior Enlisted Leader for Headquarters, General Support, Combat Logistics Company Charlie Company and currently as Headquarters and Service Company SEL. 
 
Awards: Purple Heart, Navy and Marine Commendation Medal with gold star in lieu of 5th award with Combat "C", Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with combat "V" and gold star in lieu of 4th award, Combat Action Ribbon with gold star in lieu of 2nd award.
