Command Biography

MWCS-28 Commanding Officer
Lieutenant Colonel Steve M. Magee

Lieutenant Colonel Steve Magee is a graduate from Texas A&M University. He enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserves and attended the School of Infantry-West in 2006. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in 2008 following graduation from Officer Candidate School. In January 2009, he reported to The Basic School in Quantico, Virginia.

Following his graduation from The Basic School in May 2009, he completed the Basic Communication Officer Course in December 2008 and was designated a Communications Officer. 

LtCol Magee currently serves as the Commanding Officer Marine Wing Communications Squadron – 28. LtCol Magee’s previous operational tours include deployments to the Middle East in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (2007), and two tours in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE as the J6 Director for Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force-Iraq (2017) and as the CJ6 COMM-I for Erbil Air Base (2020). 

Other assignments include Squadron Executive Officer and Company Commander, Marine Wing Communications Squadron - 28; Regimental S-6 and Communications Platoon Commander, 4th Marine Regiment; Capabilities Integration Officer, Combat Development and Integration; S-6, Marine Raider Support Group; Action Officer, Marine Corps Forces Cyberspace Command; Action Officer, Deputy Commandant for Information. 

LtCol Magee’s personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with two gold stars, Navy and Marine Corps Commendations Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
