Major Henderson was commissioned in May 2013 upon graduation from Kent State University, Kent Ohio with a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Studies. After completing The Basic School in September 2014, he reported to Pensacola, Florida, for Naval Flight Training. In August of 2016, Major Henderson earned his wings and was designated a Naval Aviator. Following his designation, he reported to Marine Heavy Helicopter Training Squadron (HMHT) 302 for follow on training in the CH-53E Super Stallion.
Upon designation as a CH-53E pilot in January of 2017, Major Henderson was assigned to Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 366 (HMH-366), where he served from 2017 until 2021. During his tour with HMH-366, Major Henderson deployed aboard the USS Kearsarge with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 264 Reinforced (VMM-264(+)), where he flew missions in support of 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit Operations from May 2018 until July 2019. During his time at HMH-366 Major Henderson served in various assignments including S-5, Substance Abuse Control Officer, Detachment S-4 Officer, Flight Line Officer in Charge, and Assistant Operations Officer.
Following his initial fleet tour with HMH-366, Major Henderson attended Expeditionary Warfare School (EWS) in Quantico, Virginia, graduating in May 2022.
In June 2022, Major Henderson reported to Marine Operational Test and Evaluation Squadron One (VMX-1) CH-53K Detachment, MCAS New River where he served as CH-53K Operational Test Pilot and Aviation Maintenance Officer, conducting numerous Operational Test and Evaluations, and Developmental Test assists on the CH-53K. While at VMX-1, Major Henderson attended Weapons and Tactics Instructor (WTI) Course 2-24 and was designated a WTI.
In June of 2024, Major Henderson was assigned as the Operations Officer for Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 461 (HMH-461). In June of 2025 he took over as the Executive Officer where he is currently serving.
Major Henderson’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with gold star in lieu of second award and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
