Second Lieutenant Jared Marks commissioned from the United States Naval Academy on May 29, 2012. Upon commissioning, Second Lieutenant Marks performed duties as an instructor within the Physical Education Department at the United States Naval Academy from June 2012 through January 2013. Second Lieutenant Marks reported to The Basic School in January of 2013 and graduated in June of 2013.
Upon graduation from The Basic School, Second Lieutenant Marks received orders to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 31 aboard Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort. At MALS-31, Second Lieutenant Marks served as the Aviation Life Support System Officer-in-Charge. While serving as the ALSS OIC, Second Lieutenant Marks attended the Aircraft Maintenance Officers Course aboard Whiting Field in Milton, FL. Upon his return to MCAS Beaufort, First Lieutenant Marks was transferred to Marine All-Weather Fighter Attack Squadron 224, where he served as the Assistant Aircraft Maintenance Officer and Material Control Officer. First Lieutenant Marks deployed with VMFA(AW)-224 to Iwakuni, Japan, from September 2015 to April 2016 as a part of the Marine Corps' Unit Deployment Program.
In June of 2016, First Lieutenant Marks received orders to the United States Naval Hospital Okinawa to serve as the Wounded Warrior Battalion West, III MEF Liaison Officer. While stationed in Okinawa, First Lieutenant Marks completed the Expeditionary Warfare School Blended Seminar Program and was promoted to Captain in March of 2017.
Captain Marks reported to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 29 in July of 2018, where he served as the Assistant Aircraft Maintenance Officer, the Aircraft Maintenance Officer, the Assistant Operations Officer, and the Operations Officer. While at MALS-29, Captain Marks was selected on the Career Level Education Board to attend the Naval Postgraduate School.
In June of 2021, Captain Marks reported to the Naval Postgraduate School, where he earned a Master of Science in Modeling, Virtual Environments, and Simulation. Upon graduation from NPS, Major Marks gained an Additional Military Occupational Specialty of Modeling and Simulation Officer. Major Marks received orders to the MAGTF Staff Training Program in July of 2023, where he served as the M&S Officer in support of MEF-level training. While stationed in Quantico, Major Marks graduated from the Command Staff College Distant Education Program in May of 2025.
Major Marks reported to Marine Aviation Squadron 14 in July of 2025, where he is currently serving as the Executive Officer.
His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Gold Star in lieu of second award and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
