Command Biography

VMGR-252 Executive Officer
Major Joseph C. King

Major King is a native of Kentucky. He graduated from Berea College with a Bachelor of Science in Technology Management. 

Following the completion of flight training, Maj King reported to his first operational unit, VMGR-252, in January of 2015.  He held a variety of billets to include Mission Planning Officer, Air Movement Control Officer, Powerline and Crewmaster Officer-In-Charge (OIC), Detachment Operations Officer, and Aircrew Training Officer.

While with VMGR-252, Maj King deployed with VMGR Det A 16.1 and VMGR Det A 18.2  in support of Combined Joint Task Force-Horn Of Africa (CJTF-HOA) and Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force – Crisis Response – Africa (SPMAGTF-CR-AF).  

In April 2019, Maj King was selected as an Exchange Officer and reported to 436 Squadron in Trenton, Ontario to serve with the Royal Canadian Airforce. Maj King served as Tactics Officer and Chief Training Officer during the duration of his exchange tour. He deployed with the Canucks in 2020 to Kuwait in support of NATO Mission Iraq and Operation Inherent Resolve. 

In 2023, Maj King returned back to VMGR-252. There he served as Assistant Operations Officer and Operations Officer. In November 2024, he deployed as Detachment OIC for VMGR Det C and VMM-266 Reinforced Operations Officer, Crisis-Response Africa 25.1, in support of CJTF-HOA. Upon returning from deployment, he assumed role as the VMGR-252 Executive Officer. 

Major King's military education includes: Expeditionary Warfare School Blended Seminar Program, Marine Corps Command and Staff College Resident, Weapons and Tactics Instructor course.
