Command Biography

VMFA-533 Executive Officer
Major Michael S. Frazer

Major Frazer Graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Sacramento State University in December 2008 and commissioned through the Platoon Leader's Course in March 2009 followed by the completion of The Basic School aboard MCB Quantico.

He completed flight training in Pensacola FL, and Corpus Christi & Kingsville TX earning his wings in November 2012. Upon completion of the Fleet Replacement Syllabus at VMFAT-101, he was designated a qualified F/A-18 pilot and reported to VMFA-232 at MCAS Miramar. He served as the S-4 Officer, Schedules Officer, and Powerline Division Officer during three years at the Red Devils while deploying to Bahrain in support of Operation Inherent Resolve and Iwakuni, Japan, for the Unit Deployment Program.

Following his time with the Red Devils, Major Frazer was designated a Forward Air Controller and reported to 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, to serve as the Battalion Air Officer and Alpha Company Forward Air Controller for deployment on the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit in the winter of 2018.

Major Frazer then received orders to Aviation Safety School, followed by MAG-11 Headquarters to serve as the Current Operations Officer. During this time, he was selected for conversion to the F-35B and promoted to Major.

Major Frazer reported to VMFAT-501 at MCAS Beaufort in March 2020 for training in the F-35B with follow-on orders to VMFAT-502 as an Instructor Pilot. After the stand up of VMFAT-502, he relocated with the unit to MCAS Miramar in December 2021. While at VMFAT-502 Major Frazer served as the Department of Safety and Standardization Officer, Maintenance Division Officer, Assistant Operations Officer, and the Admin Officer.

During this time Major Frazer also served as the USMC F-35B Flight Demonstration Pilot for 2023 supporting numerous international air shows.

Following his time at VMFAT-502, Major Frazer reported back to MCAS Beaufort as the Aviation Maintenance Officer for the stand up and Safe for Flight of VMFA-533. He served as the Operations Officer and is now serving as the Executive Officer.
