Command Biography

HMLA-269 Executive Officer
Major Daniel N. Wort

Major Daniel Wort is a native of New Jersey and graduated from Messiah College in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications-Public Relations.

Second Lieutenant Wort was commissioned November 5, 2011, reported to The Basic School May 2012 and subsequently graduated from The Basic School in December 2012. He reported to Naval Flight School in December 2012 and was designated a Naval Aviator in February 2015. Upon completion of flight school First Lieutenant Wort reported to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Training Squadron 303 for initial UH-1Y pilot training.

First Lieutenant Wort completed initial UH-1Y training in October 2015 and reported to Marine Light Attack Squadron (HMLA) 269 aboard Marine Corps Air Station New River, Jacksonville, NC. He deployed with VMM-262(REIN) on the 31st MEU from May of 2016 to November 2016. Upon return from deployment, he attended Extreme Cold Weather Survival Training in Bardufuss, Norway. In October of 2017 Major Wort attended Aviation Safety Officers Course and returned to HMLA-269 as the Squadron ASO.

Captain Wort continued in the UH-1Y syllabus and attended Weapons and Tactics Instructor (WTI) Course 2-19 in March 2019. During his time at HMLA-269, Captain Wort served in various assignments, including S-1 Officer, Flight Equipment Officer-In-Charge, Phase and Corrosion Control Officer-In-Charge, Airframes Division Officer-In-Charge, Aviation Safety Officer, UH-1 Pilot Training Officer, and the Assistant Operations Officer. While with HMLA-269 Captain Wort was hand selected for orders to Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One (MAWTS-1) to serve as a UH-1Y instructor pilot.

In June 2021, Captain Wort reported Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One (MAWTS-1) to serve as a UH-1Y Instructor Pilot. During his time at MAWTS-1, Major Wort assumed responsibilities as the Assault Support Subject Matter Expert for the UH-1Y Division, the Air-Naval Tactics Techniques and Procedure model manager, and the UH-1 Flight Leadership Standardization Evaluation Program Manager. In May 2023 Major Wort took over as the MAWTS-1 UH-1 Division Head.

Upon completion of a successful tour of duty at MAWTS-1, Major Wort reported to HMLA-269 for their re-activation in accordance with the Commandant’s Planning Guidance and assumed the role as Operations Officer. Currently, Major Wort serves as the units Executive Officer.

Major Wort has flown over 2,400 mishap free flight hours including over 2100 hours in the UH-1Y. His personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with gold star, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
