Col. Pablo J. Torres graduated with a B. S. in Aerospace Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy and commissioned as a 2nd
Lt. in May 2001. Following graduation from The Basic School, he completed naval aviation training in Pensacola, Florida, and
was designated a Naval Aviator in September 2003.
After flight school, he reported to HMLA/T-303 for initial training in the AH-1W and subsequently joined HMLA-367 in April
2004. During his time with HMLA-367, he deployed in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM from August 2004 to April 2005,
August 2006 to February 2007, and April 2008 to November 2008. He completed the Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course in
spring 2007.
Following three combat deployments with HMLA-367, he completed the Tactical Air Control Party course in Coronado,
California, and reported to 1st Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company (ANGLICO) in February 2009. He served as Air Officer for
Supporting Arms Liaison Team (SALT) Alpha and as the unit's subject matter expert in aviation fires. He was designated a Joint
Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) Evaluator in May 2009 and later served as SALT Leader. He deployed with 1st ANGLICO in
support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM in 2010.
Following his tour with 1st ANGLICO, he screened and was selected to joint Naval Special Warfare Development Group
(NSWDG), where he conducted fire support research and development. During this assignment, he deployed with a Naval Special
Warfare unit in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
From August 2012 to June 2013, he attended Marine Corps Command and Staff College in Quantico, Virginia, earning a Master
of Military Studies. He then reported to HMLA-167 serving as the Assistant Operations Officer, Operations Officer, and
Executive Officer. In October 2015, he deployed to Okinawa, Japan, in support of Unit Deployment Program 16.1.
In May 2016, he reported to Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps as Aide-de-Camp to the 34th Assistant Commandant of the Marine
Corps, General Glenn M. Walters, serving until January 2018. He subsequently returned to MAG-29, working in the Department
of Safety and Standardization.
In June 2018, he assumed command of HMLA-167 and led the "Warriors" through multiple exercises and the in-stride conversion
to the AH-1Z. He relinquished command in December 2019 and reported to MAG-29 as Executive Officer. From July 2020 to
June 2021, he attended the Marine Corps War College in Quantico, Virginia, earning a Master of Strategic Studies. He then
reported to the Joint Staff J-6 Joint Fires Integration Division. In June 2023, he transferred to Expeditionary Warfare Training
Group, Atlantic, serving as Director of Operations and Training. From July 2024 to June 2026, he commanded MAG-49.
In July 2026, he assumed duties as Chief of Staff, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing.
