Brig. Gen. Hipp's Fleet Marine Force assignments include Commanding Officer, Marine Operational Test and Evaluation Squadron (VMX) 1 in Yuma, Arizona; Commanding Officer of Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 115; Director of Safety and Standardization and Executive Officer for Marine Aircraft Group 31; various squadron assignments with VMFA All-Weather (AW) 224 and VMFA-115 in Beaufort, South Carolina, and Supporting Arms Liaison Team Leader with 2nd Air-Naval Gunfire Liaison Company (ANGLICO) aboard Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
Staff assignments include J-35 Future Operations Division Chief at U.S. Indo-Pacific Command at Camp Smith, Hawaii; F/A-18 instructor and Anti-Air Warfare specialist at Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron (MAWTS) 1 in Yuma, Arizona.
As an F/A-18 pilot, Hipp deployed to the Western Pacific as part of the Unit Deployment Program and to Al Asad Air Base, Iraq in support Operation IRAQI FREEDOM with VMFA (AW)-224. During his tour with 2nd ANGLIGO, he deployed to Habbaniyah, Iraq in support of the 3rd Brigade, 1st Division of the newly formed Iraqi Army during Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. He augmented VMFA-115 during their deployment in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE; while in command of VMFA-115 he deployed to the Western Pacific in support of the Unit Deployment Program.
Hipp commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in May 1998 at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. He is a graduate of the Infantry Officer's Course in Quantico, Virginia, Naval Postgraduate School in Monterrey, California, and the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island.
