Brigadier General Hipp assumed the duties of Assistant Wing Commander, 2d Marine Aircraft Wing on July 8, 2026. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy and was commissioned in May 1998. After completing The Basic School and the Infantry Officer Course, he earned his wings as a naval aviator in 2001 and was designated an F/A-18 pilot in 2002.
Brigadier General Hipp’s command assignments include Marine Operational Test and Evaluation Squadron One (VMX-1) from 2022 to 2024, and Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 115 (VMFA-115) from 2019 to 2021.
His staff and joint assignments include Future Operations Division Chief (J-35) at U.S. Pacific Command; Executive Officer and Director of Safety and Standardization for Marine Aircraft Group 31 (MAG-31); F/A-18 Instructor and Anti-Air Warfare Specialist at Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One (MAWTS-1); and various squadron assignments with VMFA(AW)-224.
Operationally, Brigadier General Hipp has deployed to the Western Pacific in support of the Unit Deployment Program and completed multiple combat tours in support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM and INHERENT RESOLVE. In addition to his deployments as an F/A-18 pilot, he served on the ground as a Supporting Arms Liaison Team Leader with 2d Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company (ANGLICO) in Habbaniyah, Iraq, where he lived with and supported the Iraqi Army.
Brigadier General Hipp is a graduate of the Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN) and the Weapons and Tactics Instructor (WTI) course. He holds a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School, where his research earned the Outstanding Thesis designation, and a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College, graduating with highest distinction as the President’s Honor Graduate.
Brigadier General Hipp has accumulated over 3,500 flight hours, including over 3,000 in the F/A-18 and over 200 in the F-35. His personal decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with Strike/Flight numeral 8, Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device and three gold stars, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
