Major Cody Sviba received his commission in January 2016. He was designated a Naval Aviator in April 2019 and reported to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Training Squadron(VMMT) 204 aboard Marine Corps Air Station New River, North Carolina for initial training in the MV-22B Osprey.
From October 2019 to June 2020, 1stLt Sviba served in Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron(VMM)-264 " The Black Knights". His squadron billets at VMM-264 included daily flight schedule writer, navigation officer, and command historian. He was promoted to the rank of Captain in March 2020. Upon VMM-264's deactivation in June 2020, Captain Sviba executed orders to VMM-261 " The Raging Bulls" serving as the squadron's NATOPS Officer. In March 2021, Captain Sviba deployed with VMM-261 Reinforced (REIN) to Moron, Spain as part of the North Africa Response Force (NARF) 21.2. During the deployment, Captain Sviba supported the multinational Exercise AFRICAN LION in Agadir, Morocco. Upon his return from deployment, Captain Sviba assumed the role as the squadron's S-4 Officer in Charge (OIC). His responsibility was handling all logistical coordination for the squadron for their upcoming participation in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Exercise Cold Response 22 in Bodo, Norway. In August 2022, Captain Sviba was selected to attend the Naval School of Aviation Safety's Aviation Safety Officer (ASO) Course. Upon graduation, Captain Sviba assumed the role of VMM-261's ASO. In September 2023, Major Sviba deployed with VMM-261(REIN) to Djibouti, Africa as part of Crisis Response Africa(CR-AF) 24.1.
In August 2024, Captain Sviba executed orders to VMMT-204 where he earned the designation Fleet Replacement Squadron Instructor (FRSI). In addition to his role to train future MV-22B pilots, he served as the squadron's Future Operations Officer and Student Control OIC. He was promoted to the rank of Major in February 2025. In May 2025, Maj Sviba executed orders to VMM-266 " The Fighting Griffins" and served as the squadron's Operation Officer. From January to February 2026, Major Sviba oversaw the squadron's participation in Service Level Training Exercise (SLTE) 1-26 aboard MCAGCC Twentynine Palms. Major Sviba executed orders in April 2026 to VMM-264 and currently serves as the squadron Executive Officer.
Major Sviba holds a BS in Aeronautics and a MS in Aviation Safety from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He is also a graduate of the Expeditionary Warfare School Blended Seminar Program. He has accumulated over 1050 mishap-free flight hours with over 850 of those in the MV-22B. His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
